sharon's ventures down under
hi all, its back to reality for me now as i have now come down to Bundaberg and started work. Since i last wrote anything i have fiished my tour on contiki. We offically finished 2 weeks ago (2nd july), half the tour left us on saturday morning to go to airs rock for a further 10 days, but those of us remaining went to the aborigini park where we got to have a go at throwing spears and boomerangs, i did pretty well if i do say so myself, and no i didnt hit anyone if you were wondering! Once we finished a couple of us went with amy to watch her jump out of plane in pink pj's. You have no worries it wasnt an experience i chose to repeat following my last attempt at jumping out of a plane! As the sat ended and sunday came everyone on our tour had left except myself and another guy, so at last i managed to get a few quiet nights in without any alcohol. We both flew down to brisbane on the wednesday where i checked into the YHA hostel, which was nice but a little run down and too far away from town, so spent 20mins at a time walking to and from the main centre, dont think i will stay there again. Luckily i got to meet up with Carly, Charlie and Immogen from my Asia tour, they were making their way down south which was good. But of course the partying started over again, along with going to see Pirates of the carabean 2. oln saturday last week i caught a coach up to bundaberg whichtook 7 hours. I think i had misread the paper work as i was only expecting it to be 4 hours away. Upon arrival i got collected by a mini bus from the hostel, dumped my stuff and then went back out for dinner with the girls from work, it was good to meet them before i started. The hostel is good, i am in a 10 bed dorm, there is a bar and a swimming pool. Everyone here is working on the farms, fruit picking or packing, i ont think it will be soemthing i will be doing, too much like hard work for peanuts! I dont think i will end up getting a flat as there will be noone to get one with as they get their work through the hostel. It has got better as the week has gone along, i am now getting used to sharing a kitchen with 100 other people, i have a rough idea as to when i should go in the kitchen without it being too busy. Bundaberg is an interesting place, just imagine sittingbourne about 15 years ago. It is very quiet, the shops shut at 12noon on a saturday and nothing is open on a sunday, but it does have a large pub that has live music, which is better than sittingbourne! Found that last night, but just full of backpackers, so my hopes of finding a local may not quite happen! Work seems to be good, i am only working 4 days a week, with every friday off, its a hard life, so hopefully i will have a chance to explore the surrounding areas. I had problems initally with the registration but tmy documents have now come through, so can work leagally as an OT. I am doing some hand therapy, peadiatrics and fsome general rehab, which is all good, its a bit strange having to charage them for everything, including the dressing you use and if you give them some more strapping, but iam sure i will get used to it. Anyway had best go for now, so bye.
