Hello everyone!
Well I had an amazing time on Phi Phi and it has been one of my favourite places from the whole trip. After a ferry from Phuket we arrived in Phi Phi 90 minutes later to be greeted off the boat from loads of touts fighting amongst themselves to get people into their accommodation. Matt and I found a pretty cheap deal and got the price down a little bit as we were to be staying for 8 nights. We went to our rooms and dropped off our bags and then headed straight to the beach to find Helen and Tim. We went to the wrong beach at 1st to try and find them as there is a very small stretch where there is a beach, then some land and then beach at the other side. There is probably only about 20metres from one side to the other. We eventually found each other near to their hotel which was pretty posh and not what we were used to!!
While we were on Phi Phi we spent all our days and nights together and we had a really good time and all got on brilliantly. Matt and I were lucky as we were able to use their hotel facilities including the pool, sun loungers and free scuba diving lessons! They had a lovely room with an amazing view looking out into the sea and the beautiful cliffs. We spent a few night on the balcony having a few drinks before tea!
One of the 1st days we were in Phi Phi we hired kayaks and kayaked to Monkey Beach which was a beach just around the corner from the beach we were. It only took around 15 mins and when we got their we went to see the monkeys that inhabit the beach. They were really cute and people were feeding them when we were there meaning that they came right up to us. We also did a bit of snorkelling around there before kayaking back as there was quite a lot of coral in the sea with lots of fish.
Another day we did a half day trip around the island on a long boat going to some absolutely gorgeous places including Maya Bay which is the beach that is features on 'The Beach'. We also snorkelled around there and Tim had brought some bread with him and as we were snorkelling broke it up so that there were hundreds of fish around us. It was really cool!
As we were able to use the facilties in the pool as we pretended to be Helen and Tim, we Matt and I were able to do a few scuba lesson in the pool which was really good. It gave us the bug then to really want to do it for real and so we all booked a trip for the next day! We went out into the sea and did 2 dives which were incredible. The 1st dive was pretty funny as Matt couldn't get down as the pressure hurt his ears too much and as soon as he got down i just floated back up to the top! This went on for about 20 mins until we were both down with Helen and Tim! The 1st one Matt and I got to see and swim right next to a turtle which was amazing. Unfortunately Helen and Tim missed it by seconds as Tims air was getting low. The 2nd dive was with black tipped sharks. The visibility wasn't that great and some I didn't know if they were big fish or sharks! Overall the experience was brilliant and something i'd love to do again.
We spend a lot of the evenings on Phi Phi at a cocktail bar close to the beach which was like a small shack and was really cool. We made it our local and even signed our names on the bar on our last night! One evening we went to a bar that each night showed 'The Beach' which was good to watch as we were in Phi Phi. Phi Phi also had a lot of cool shops around which were hard to resist as they sold such lovely things and so one day we did have a look around a few of the many stalls at the local crafts on offer. Phi Phi was a lot bigger than I expected and so beautiful, it is exactly how it looks in the pictures. I think we were all suprised how much it looked like the Tsunami hadn't even hit the island, when it was one of the most effected places in the whole of Thailand with nearly 2000 people dying. There are a lot of signs with evacuation routes and after we did our dive we went up to the view point to have a look over the island and the views as we watched the sunset were something else.
Unfortunately due to Helen and Tim's flight times and the fact the boats didn't leave early enough in the morning they had to leave a night early so Matt and I had a lovely last night of luxury in their hotel.
We had an amazing week together and as I said before Phi Phi has been one of my favourite places on the entire trip!
