It's very windy in Wellington! We have been here for two days now, and we have been getting battered by the wind, and rain, quite a bit! Although it is the capital of New Zealand it doesn't seem to have the feel of a capital city, and it seems quite small in comparison to Auckland. We started off our stay in Wellington by attempting to get the cable car up to the Botanical Gardens to view the city and its harbour from above, but the cable car was closed for maintainence, due to reopen on the day after we leave. Typical! So we went to the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa instead, (which was free ... we like free!), which was good, and had some interesting stuff in it. The weather had been nice all day and then by the evening had turned ugly, just in time for the fireworks for Guy Fawkes. We hadn't realised that they celebrate Guy Fawkes in New Zealand, so we decided to view the display that was being put on at the harbour. It was very busy with families and the fireworks were quite impressive, and the weather just about held out.
We only have one more day in Wellington, and then we get the ferry to the South Island, for a few more weeks of exploring. The North Island has been enjoyable and we have seen a lot of impressive sights. We are really looking forward to the South Island :-)
