We've made it to Sydney!!
We got up at 1 45am local time in Christchurch (so midnight Sydney time), for a flight at 6 30, so we are rather tired to say the least. A rather uneventful trip; the customs officer had the same birthday as me, and the train from the airport to the hostel was double decker, but that's about it. It's really hot and sunny at the moment, very different to New Zealand! The sun is much stronger here, Adam and I probably both have skin cancer already...
Anyway, we have three nights here in Sydney; tomorrow we're doing a Blue Mountains Day Tour, which hopefully won't be too much hard work. We then have a free day, who knows if we'll be able to even get up though. After that we have a flight up to Brisbane, then Prosperpine (in the same day), to get to Airlie Beach (not sure how to get there from the airport actually...). We have a night there, then we start our 6 nights on the Tall Ships Sailing! It's a 100 year old boat, with proper sails and all that, and we can go snorkelling and scuba diving, exploring, helping out with the sailing bit, or just relaxing. And they feed us. Both meals and snacks. We're very excited.
After that we have another night in Airlie Beach, fly back down to Brisbane for a night, somehow get to Byron Bay and stay there for a night, and then we have 3 nights/4 days on a surf pass. We head to "Surf Camp X," some reclusive spot I think, and have a surf lesson in the morning and afternoon every day, with the rest of the time to do as we please (I think). That takes us down to Sydney, where we spend another 2 nights, and then we travel on Oz Experience, which takes 2 nights to get us to Melbourne (on the way checking out..stuff...Canberra and all that). We have 3 nights in Melbourne--one day doing a Penguin Parade Tour where we see wildlife and then in the evening all the wild penguins go back to the beach, and the second day is a free day. Another 2 nights on Oz Experience to get to Adelaide (via the Great Ocean Road), and 2 days once we get there--one day going to Kangaroo Island on a day tour (that speaks for itself really), and the second doing a half day tour where we swim with dolphins!
Finally, we fly to Perth, stay there for the night, then another nice long flight to get to Johannesburg.
And that's Australia in a nutshell! This bit is rather unorganised, so who knows what we have forgotten to do :S
Hopefully update soon!
