G'day possums,
Sorry for the long delay in updating the blog - but, believe it or not, getting good (or any) internet connection for less than about £8 an hour is not as easy as you would think!! But here we are in a funky little coffee shop in Airlie Beach, where internet is free as long as you are drinking their coffee :-)
So, after actually making our flight from Perth to Adelaide, we have had a busy week or two, hitting the bright lights and big smoke of Adelaide and Sydney. Adelaide was pretty cool. We did the mandatory wine tour up to the Barrosa valley with the random travellers and got extremely drunk. Then to continue the party we met up with our friend Andrea who took us to the Old Lion pub (which according to her is the place to be). Things got pretty messy from there and the Jagerbombs just added to the party. The full gory pictures have now been posted on Facebook for your enjoyment... OUWWWCHHH
The rest of the time in Adelaide was mainly spent catching up with friends who made us feel proper welcome and even laid on a proper Aussie bbq for us. Happy days. Gray also had a brush with celebrity when he bumped in to the legendary Aussie racing driver Craig Lowndes and even got a piccy and an autograph. For those of you who are thinking who is Craig Lowndes... my thoughts exactly, but for a petrolhead it's a pretty cool thing.
Next stop Sydney. Wow, it's got expensive, that's for sure. To be honest so is the whole of the country, and I am pretty sure Oz won't be happy until it has shaken every last penny out of us. But hey, when you are on holiday, what can you do? :-) What can we say about Sydney, it's still amazing and we did the usual tourist things - Sydney bridge, the Opera House, Maritime museum, meals out.. you get the jist. We did however miss out the Sydney Aquarium at the rip-off price of £25 a head!
The high-light of Sydney for us was catching up with our good old buddy Maccas. We spent the day together taking in a few tourist hot-spots and by 4 o'clock, we had succumbed to the pub. First stop was Sydney's Ice Bar, and from there it was mess, mess and more mess. No words to describe this, you just have to see the pics. All I will say is Gray managed to get kicked out of a pub for being too drunk, Maccas rared up at the bouncer cuz of it and I had to get in the middle of it. Then towards the end of the night, a toilet seat came in to the mix ?????? So yeah Sydney was awesome and some bits were blurry, but would not have it any other way.
This brings us to the here and now of the Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach. It's such a beautiful place, we love it. even if there is a cyclone just offshore and the weather is a bit windy :-) We will keep you updated on the cyclone situation, but for now, we are off to enjoy what Airlie Beach has to offer.
Tomorrow we are hiring a Mini Moke and taking a drive up the coast. Reckon it will be a blast. Will let you know how that goes.
See ya for now, ya bunch of Poms
