Woken abruptly at just past 6am by a barrage of firework explosions, which continued for about 20-30 minutes. Woken again at 8.30, by the alarm clock, & slowly & reluctantly got up & started the day. Yesterday's breakfast restaurant was closed, so we walked (through the middle of an open air street church service) to the local square & bought tortas for breakfast, which were quite small, so we also bought some more empanadas & sat in the main square to eat them, We walked back to the hotel via a few shops, finished packing & got a taxi to the bus station.
We were 20 minutes early for the 12 noon bus to Guanajuato, just enough time for L to have a coffee, & we were soon loading our bags into the hold, & settling down for the 90 minute journey on the 1st class bus. Surprisingly, it was the first bus journey where L has felt a little travel sick, & D was very grateful when we pulled into the bus station, & could disembark!
A helpful tourist information chap accosted up as we got off the bus, & supplied us with details about cheap hotels in the centre of town. A short (overcharged) taxi ride later, & we were deposited in the centre of town, but the room at the hotel that had been suggested was too small (twin single beds, & not enough floor space for the kids). We crossed the road to have a look at another hotel, & were accosted by another helpful tourist information chap, who directed us to a very cheap hotel (M$250 / night) - 2xdbl, own bathroom, but very tired looking room - & taught us a new word: propina!
After sorting out the room, we went for a wander, & to work out exactly where in town we were! Once we had found as couple of landmarks, & were orientated, we walked to the birthplace of Diego Rivera, which is now a museum & art gallery. The ground floor contains furniture from the 19th century, as it would have looked when he lived there (b: 1886). The 2nd & 3rd floors displayed many of his works, in all sorts of different styles, from throughout his career.
Afterwards, we found a small English language bookshop, & all bought second hand books to restock our supplies. Then, as we were continuing our exploration of the town, we came across a cheap little restaurant, & decided to have tea (M$30 each) - chicken or beef + salad + beans + tortillas. Once full, we slowly wandered back to the hotel, window shopping as we went. Dusk was falling as we got back to the hotel, & we were soon turning in for the night.
