Woke just past 8.30, & slowly got up & started the day. L helped kids with their schoolwork, while D used the free wifi to check emails & update blog. Left hotel at 10 to find breakfast, & got chatting to a chap who just happened to own a restaurant a few meters away! Filled croissants (very nice - D had a second!), fresh OJ & coffee for breakfast - shame it was a bit pricey (M$350)! Once fed, we walked to the Museo de Aguascalientes to view paintings, sculptures & bronze castings of Aztec gods - one or two interesting pieces, but very little that "stood out" (like we know anything about art!!) A little further down the road was the Museo Nacional de Muerte - a fascinating collection of new & old artworks & artefacts, some funny some thought provoking, some downright odd! Then we walked through the central square, & quickly popped into the music shop to check prices on guitars, as the baggage handlers in LAX had destroyed the little guitar that we had bought in New Zealand. After window shopping for a few minutes, we made our way to the Regional History Museum to view displays on local prehistoric creatures, the earliest human settlers in the region, & the resistance of the local peoples to the Spanish Conquistadores. There was also a very macabre photographic exhibition entitled "La nina muerte".
Having had our fill of museums for the day, we walked further west to the Jardin de San Marcos & the old bull fighting ring, then south to the pedestrianised area around the new bull fighting ring & the Expoplaza shopping mall. Turning back east, we headed back towards the town centre, & stopped at a pretty little courtyard café for beer, coffee & yummy (fresh) strawberry smoothies. Then it was back to the hotel, to rest & recharge our batteries, before heading out for a cheap comida corrida tea, collecting the laundry from the laundrette, & settling down for the night.
