Marrakech is everything I thought it would be; the colours and smells, the markets, the street food. What I didn't realize, was all the donkey carts and donkey poo, the performing snakes and monkeys are creepier in real-life, you get hassled to buy something all the time, from a packet of tissues to a bowl of lentils to a berber carpet! It's a very busy place! The guys who are touting for the restaurants in the Square know their stuff and talked to us about what happened on East Enders and Home & Away the night before. Sometimes we'd turn around after hearing someone yelling out hello in an absolutley authentic aussie accent only to find a little moroccan man beckoning us to his stall. One man even threw in A dingo ate my baby.
Going to Essaouira for a few days was a great escape from busy Marrakech. Sleepy seaside town, relaxed shopping, no hassles, fresh fish and tasty tagines, camels on the beach...
Mmmmm...gazing at the snow-capped Atlas mountains in the distance...Morocco is definitely a place to come back to...
