We woke up at around 6am to miss the beach rush and grabbed a longboat to none other than Maya bay, the beach where the film "The Beach" was filmed.
The boat stopped in by some cliff face and we were looking around confused to where we were meant to get off. Then the driver pointed to a platform and a web shaped rope "ladder", made of variously tied up rope, and he told us it was too wavy for him to sail to the actual beach so we had to jump off the boat and swim towards this disaster of an entrance. The waves were harshly crashing the rock face. Terrified and disbelieved of the route to we were about to embark on, we reluctantly jumped off the boat after suiting up in lifejacket and swam over. Literally scared for my life, I reached closer towards the rock face. I grabbed onto the rope and held on for dear life as the waves viciously crashed me around, after a struggle I managed to climb up the crazy danger ladder and eventually make it onto the platform.
After the near death experience, we walked on over to the beach. The walk to the beach was amazing it was a deserted beach jungle with massive limestone cliffs surrounding all around. As we passed through the jungle, the trees opened out onto the world's most heavenly beach. I felt like I was in a movie. Death ladder was definitely worth it to go to the most incredible beach I've ever been to in my life. I chilled on a hammock hanging off a rock face and just gazed at the scenery, I have never been so content; a beach dreams are made of.
We had the beach to ourselves at first but after an hour or so, the tourists began to flood in. They rocked right up to the beach in their fancy boats, completely unaware of what we'd been through to get there! "They don't know what we've been through!!!"
We realised us marfs can't swim because it's not in our genes. Apparently Chinese can't swim. A group of china men all rocked up swimming around in the shallowest water still wearing their life jackets. One of about twenty of them was the only one not wearing one.
We left when it got too busy and headed back to the danger ladder. It wasn't as bad on the way down and just had to time it right, jumping off and just making sure we were going with the current was all we had to do. Long boat back and then after lunch we packed up and got the cruise boat back to Phuket.
