South East Asia Travels '12
First thing in the morning, Kuku drove us to see Uncle Ronald, who has fallen ill with pancreatic cancer as of late. I saw him last year and he was such a happy, happy man and was so healthy, singing and playing his ukulele to songs by the Beatles and Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole, amongst many others. Seeing him today was a complete an utter shock that I wasn't prepared for. The minute I saw him I broke down and balled into Jessie's shoulder. He was so thin, frail, weak, hooked up to morphine and a breathing machine and in so much pain. Nothing like the man I saw last year, a photo of then even hung on the wall and I just couldn't believe how badly someone could deteriorate in only three months after a diagnosis. I can't stand to see people suffering and Uncle Ronald was in a very bad way, he could barely close his fists without wincing in pain. He played music in the background and mouthed along to it to keep strong though which looked like it helped him through the pain. After I had used up all the tissues in the household and we were leaving Uncle Ronald said all the best. I gave Aunty Annie a hug and wondered how she keeps so strong. I'm glad I got to see him one last time though. And seeing the drastic change in Uncle Ronald's life has enforced me to remember how lucky I am and that every day is a blessing. Also you just never know what could happen to you and when so you have to just take each day as it comes and live each day to the fullest.
After pouring out a raging set of emotions, we met up with the boys and headed off to Orchard Road. We had lunch and had large amounts of chicken rice, my absolute fav. We then met Sam's friend from home, Ricky G, who arrived in Singapore yesterday. Then me, Mr Ben and Isaac went to watch a film at the cinema, Bourne legacy, it was fairly good, but Jeremy Renner is no Matt Damon. The popcorn and drinks were ridiculously enormous and dirt cheap. After the cinema, we all went to dinner at Ji Yi's place and had a big feast. Most of the fam was also there which was lovely.
After we departed from the fam and went to Marina bay to see the laser water show, once again, a pleasant, epic piece. Feeling pretty tired, me and Nic headed back home on the MRT. We almost got lost walking back, but soon found our bearings and managed just fine.
