We arrived in Luang Prabang in the early hours of the morn, everyone was sleep deprived and crabby so we jumped into a "tuktuk" to the first hotel we picked from the lonely planet guide book (after the guy faffing around with other tourists for ages). When we got there, we found there was no air-con rooms available so we routed around for a while and found a beautiful hotel right in the centre for just £6 each a night.
After we were all showered up we went down the road to get some food in our bellies, I got a delicious avocado, mayo, sweet chili salad sandwich and mango shake. Then we had casual cocktails overlooking the Mekong for a chill after our stressful bus journey. Feeling exhausted and possibly a little heat stroked, I went back to the hotel and got a few hours kip before having dinner. We picked a lovely restaurant in the centre, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, nice toilets and deco, the little Laotian who served us received a nice tip.
I like Laos very much; the people don't have much but are very friendly and always smiling.
After dinner we went to the night Market which was literally outside our hotel door. I got some cool elephant trousers that I had been looking for a while and some other bits and bobs. Keeping up with purchasing a bracelet from each place we visit, I got another one here. The market was full of lots of beautiful things, one thing that caught my eye was this stall which had items made from bombs! Made by the villagers of Naphia tribe, they crafted spoons and intricate bracelets, among other stuff, from the bomb shells that fill the place. Amazing what beautiful items you can make out of horrible things. Then back to the hotel for an early night and a well needed severe sleep catch-up.
