The day started quite well; I skyped Jacqui for an hour while everyone was asleep/eating breakfast, then we checked out of Reina Madre and made our way into Palermo Soho for lunch with Steph who had just returned to Buenos Aires the previous night. First though was the debacle of finding an ATM. The only one that didn't involve a 20 minute walk back the way we had come (in hindsight we had enough time), was next to the Art Factory hostel. Go figure. In the end, we were really lucky that Steph's friend (an American girl) was willing to exchange our US dollars for pesos ($20=300pesos) so we could afford lunch. The Burger Joint we ate at did an incredible veggie burger, and gave us many many chips. so we were slightly full to say the least!
After saying our goodbyes, and planning our reunion in Melbourne this coming November, we returned to the hostel to retrieve our bags. The rest of the day was supposed to be relatively easy: go to the bus terminal and jump on bus. But we hadn't managed to print our tickets and we were running slightly late, so it was kind of a nightmare. We found the 'Rio Uruguay' stall with 15 minutes left until departure, and, upon telling asking her to print our tickets, the woman behind the desk went off at us, ranting for a full minute, in Spanish, that it was our responsibility, and despite my telling her that we don't have a printer, nor do I understand her very complicated Spanish directions, she continued to yell and carried on. Luckily the young man with the man bun decided to help us out or we wouldn't have made it onto the bus on time at all. He ran with us to an internet cafe, found our bus for us and made them wait until we boarded, sticky and gross, and the bus left the terminal a minute later. The rest of the journey passed much the same: 17 hours of knitting, sleeping on chairs that don't recline all the way and rainy air-conditioners. Grrr.
