Following on from our previous blog, after I got off the computer I went outside all ready to go to find Rach scooping out water from the boot of the car we had brought the day before. Over night we had, had a heavy down poor and a slight leakage occured in the boot of the car. Rach was scooping all the water out when a man came over and asked if she wanted any help to which she replied "Help?, I dont even really know what im supposed to be doing" The lovely man proceded to knock a hole in the bottom of the boot so the water could drain out and then fill the whole in which the rain was getting in, in with Silicone so it wouldnt happen again. He then checked our Radiator and Oil for us then followed us to the petrol station to make sure our tyres etc were ok. He then took us onto the Great Northern Highway as neither of us had a scooby on how to get out of Perth. So that was us, we were on our way up North after A week of being in Perth.
The Great Northen Highway turns into the Brand Highway and what a BORRRRRING Highway that is. Just long straight Roman roads we got excited when there was a bend in it or a hill!!! We arrived at Cervantes which is about 5kms from the Pinnicles and where would be home fore the night. We stayed at a backpackers called Pinnicles Backpackers. We dropped off our stuff and went into the so called "Town" to find something to eat. Well, everyhere was shut! the population of Cervantes is around 350 people and has a very "Local Town, for Local People" feel to it. We went to the local Cafe which served food (next to the gas station) and pursuaded them to cook us some chips as they were then closing. After that we headed off to the Pinnicles at about 5pm in time for sunset. On entering into the Pinnicles Dessert we saw our first wild (Live) Kangaroo. Only a little one but at least we saw him. As we started to drive around the Pinnicles we realised we had them all to ourselves, no one else was about which was lovely. It is a very eery place, especially at dusk. We were lucky to get a lovely sunset and were amased by how many Pinnicles of all different shapes and sizes there were.
After we finished looking at the Pinnicles we took the road back to Cervantes very slow as dusk is when Roo's like to come out to play. After we got back to Cervantes we decided that 7pm was too early for bed so set about trying to find somewhere toi have a couple of drinks. The only place that was open was the local Sports & Golf Club. We hoovered around outside as we wernt sure if "non locals were aloud in" when a guy comes over and says"just go in" he obviously know were front fron these parts. We went in and it was like a village hall with a bar and one end where the local footie team where having their presentation and getting drunk and the other end was full of a load of pensioners having their Sunday night buffet dinner! It was all very odd. We stayed for a couple of drinks and then quickly left.
The next morning we woke up bright and Early and headed for Kalbarri National Park.......
