ON arrival into Ubud we instantly liked it. Although again as we got out of the bus we had to deal with the locals again. This time abit tired, we were not as nice and one of them go the sharp end of Rachels tonge as follows "Why do you ask us if we want a life and then not listen for the answer!!! If we say no it means no and when we walk back past in five minutes the answer will still be no!" The guy was apologetic but we were beyond apologys at that point. (This man make an apperance a bit later on).
As we stood at the side of the road reading our lonely planet decided where about in Ubud we actually where and where we were going to stay for the next few days lots of people were asking to take our bags and give us a list. This is not something you need where your trying to ready a book with 25ks on your back 11 kgs in your bag on your front, a hangbag over your sholuder and heavy bag of woodern purchases in your only free hand. It was at this point I said "Can everyone go away and give us some bloody room to breath. let along try and carry our stuff, ON OUR OWN!!!" they all quickly scurried off and sat a few yards away, watching as I turn a slightly bright shad of angry crimson, taking deep breaths to clam myself down, I then look at Rach who is trying her hardest not to laugh at the whole situation let along the color id just turned a shade of!!
Having decided where we where going to stay we decided out of spite to the poele that had just caused me to have a slight aneurysm we decided to walk to the hotel! (this would cause major humble pie moments in the very nere future!)
We walked a way up the road and came to a hotel of what we though was ours, except it wasnt our hotel it was another hotel with the same name! Whenwe asked the man in the carpark to show us on our map where ours was it was about 15 minuts away!! Nice one, we wernt going to walk all that way with all the stuff we had in tow. We stubbled back onto the road where we came across the man that Rachel had snapped at initially when we got off the bus. He said sorry to interupt I know you told me you dont need a taxi but I couldnt help but overhear you conversation with the hotel reception (obviously said in more broken English than that). So we had to eat huble pie and jump into his taxi where as 15 minutes before we had told him to b***** off with Quote- "Why do you ask us if we want a lift and then not listen for the answer!!! If we say no it means no and when we walk back past in five minutes the answer will still be no!" Unquote. How wrong were we!! we apologised and jumped in his nice new 4x4 with aircon. So that was a plus. He took us to our hotel and I jumped out to see if there was any rooms. Luckily there was and they under charged us by quite abit too which was nice. In my absence Rach was talking to taxi driver who turned out to do his own tours of the Ubud area in his nice car for only 225Rh person which equates to about13 pounds for the whole day! We decided to go for this and arranged that he would pick us up on the Friday 29th Aug (today being the tues 26th Aug).
Weds 27th Aug was a day well spend in a Spa in Ubud called Eve Spa where we paid 11 Pounds each, go a full body massage, facial & reflxology. Rach got a full body massage, full body mud wrap, spa bath & facial. The best 11 Pounds wever spent sofar, it was lovely.
Thurs 28th Aug we went for a walk around Ubud which has some lovely arts & crafts shops and very beautiful resturants. We then headed to the Sacred Monkey Forest where we spent most the day being jumped on by monkeys. It was good fun and nice to see the monkeys having a good time. On coming out of the Monkey forest we went into a shop to look at the local nic nacs and on coming out of the shop and little elderley homeless man stopped us and help out the handfull of black fluff, it was a very tiny, hardly old enough to open its eyes puppy! He wanted 200,000.00 Rh for it which was about 10 Pounds! We stopped for about 2 minutes and just looked at the both of the, not really knowing what to do, as if we left that puppy with him it was sure to die, it need milk! It even crossed my mind to just buy it and worry about it when we leave! but this was not sensible, I even though about buying it and giving it to the taxi driver who was taking us on our day trip as he had said he had 2 dogs and loved them very much. In the end, as heart breaking as it was we had to just walk away. It was horrible and hard to do but had I know at that point that there was a dog refuge place up the road owned by and american lady I would have brought that little puppy in a second and taken him there. Unfortunalty I didnt have that knowledge at that time. :0(.
We went for dinner to confort eat after seeing that little puppy. We had a nice italian meal (you cant beat pasta!) following this we trundle back to the hotel, on the way seeing this dog refuge place. We stood reading the sign when a security guard from inside came out to talk to us about the place. He invited us in to see the dogs. We went in and a couple were very angry we had enerted their world but soon came round to us. They only had about 5-6 in there as the rest were over in the clinic further down the road. They were well looked after and again there was a cute little black puppy in there. We told the security guard about the little puppy we had been offered and apprently this man does it all the time. We spent a good 2 hrs in there playing with the dogs and then made our way back to the hotel.
The following day we on our day out with the local taxi man. He took us to some beautiful rice paddys in the mountains, The holyspring water Temple which makes you look youthfull if you put it on your face (we did for good measure), Elephant Cave, another temple I cannot remember at this moment, a spice farm and Mount Batur Volcano & lake. The day was really good and we got to see alot of things that normal day package tours wouldnt take you to. We gave our private tour guide a good tip to say thankyou for everything he had done, it was also probably a guilt thing for the way we treated him earlier that week.
The following day we woke up early and got the shuttle bus back to Depansar Airport to get out flight back to Singapore.
