After another 40 mins on the local mans boat we finally arrived at one of the Gili Islands called Gili Meno, the middle of the tree islands, the smallest & quietist (exactly why we chose it) we pulled up to the beach and jumped into the water with our back packes on our backs ready to wade to shore. It was 11pm and very dark so this was a mission. when we got to shore the only place to stay on this side of the island was looking a little dead. No one was around and we couldnt for the life of us find reception. After shouting hello a few tims and little sasak (local Gili Island people) man jumped out of his beach cabin and luckily came down to our rescue. He sorted a double room for the Swiss couple and said "follow me, I show you what I have for you" we following him down this sandy track about 5 mins away from the main area. We arrived at our beach huts and they were amazing. Brand New, Made of Bamboo throughout, shower, toilet, sea view, everything! The bamboo huts here 200,000Rh per hut, per night which worked out at 11quid per night so me and Rach decieded we would have one each! (at that price it would be rude not to!) they were the only two so it was all ours, we were away from everyone else, it was litle our own little paradise island. Absolultly stunning.
The next 3 days were filled with sunbathing, snorkeling the reef just off the beach and drinking with the locals who worked in the resort in the evening. They were lovely people (so different from the people on mainland lombok and Bali). They taught me and Rach how to Poi, and wanting me to do it with fire to which I told them to get stuffed! They sang and played the guitar & drumms for us. It was lovely to speand time with genuine locals instead of holiday makers and other backpackers.
Come the day we had to check out we were very sad to leave. We got a horse and cart back to the other side of Gili Meno where we would start that god awful journey all the way back to Bali for a week in Ubud, but not before a 2 night pit stop in Sengiggi, Lombok.
