We'd got on a 5pm bus to Hoi An but at 8am were chucked off on to the pavement with our bags in HUE. After about an hour and a half arguing at the bus 'office' and trying to liase with the hostel who'd sold us the ticket, they put us on he next bus, after trying to get us to spend more money... not a chance!! Once we got to Hoi An we'd been travelling for 24 hours and were happy to stay in sleepy Gecko even though it was a little pricely. We headed for dinner and on to 'Why Not Bar'... where they served FREE WHISKEY AND COKE FROM 9-12PM!!!! Why not??? Lots of familiar faces there- great night :)
Spent 4 hours in a tailors getting measured and telling the lady exactly what we wanted making- I spent $200! Ooops :) Got my sisters bridesmaids dress. The town is so so beautiful with a river splitting it in 2. We were on the quieter, and cheaper, side. The Chinese quarter is amazing... lanterns lining the street etc., and strangely lots of Italian restaurants there? The beach is lovely and peaceful, although the waves don't make for a relaxing dip- very violent!
Almost missed our bus to Nah Trang as we were getting last minute changes made to our clothes- literally ran to the station holding our items in our arms! Another excellent journey on a sleeper bus :/ We were shoved to the back in a row of 5 half-reclining seats on the bottom level with no lights for reading... or seeing. I moved to a single bed where I could read which I got told off for! Excuse me, if it's empty I'm having it! When we stopped in the night, the toilets had no doors on them. Fantastic.
As we would learn to expect of Vietnamese taxi drivers, hen we arrived at 7am, the driver had no idea where Nah Trang Backpackers was. It's their little trick to make us pay more as they drive us round for 10 times as long than it should take and then expect 10 times the money! NO NO. Hit the beach, which again had ridiculous waves so didn't even attempt to go in for fear of a repeat of South of France when Jessy and I had our bikinis ripped off. Oh how we laughed.
Went to dinner with some girls from our dorm, got the free drink that comes with the room and then headed to 'Why not Bar' in Nah Trang. No free Whisky and coke? Take me back to Hoi An! After that we went to the Sailling Club which was of course situated on the beach. Very posh with large white sofa type seating to lounge on! Got the cable car to Vinpearl Park (where the rubbish bins are penguins) which is an island with a theme park, water park, aquarium and games centre on it. Spinning and swaying rides are really fantastic hangover cures. 'Kamikaze' waterslide gives the BIGGEST wedgies ever, enjoyed by the many old men standing at the bottom- for whatever reason.
After the taxi driver swore he knew where our hostel was when we got in, he later asked us 'So what's your hostel called again?' then passed us the phone to explain to his friend where it was! Obviously we didn't know the directions to the hostel on the other side of town- we only knew the name so when we saw somewhere we vaguely recognised we got out and gave him a little money and walked the rest ourselves. None of us wanted to go to bed last night as one of our new room mates presumably had an upset tummy- nasty smells!! The joys of dorms.
