Koh Phi PhiWe met Sarah who flown over to spend 3 weeks with us over xmas/new year and got the boat over! I LOVE PHI PHI! It's a maze of little shops and resturants and the beach is so long and lined with bars and clubs for all tastes and budgets. We stayed in a 20 bed dorm called Forest Bungalows. Very basic living and a pretty grim bathroom set up, but very cheap!
As it is a party island you will not be surprised to hear that this is where we began to let lose. Kim may have got a bamboo tattoo and I may have got my nose pierced... twice. Luckily I couldn't feel the pain of the first time- can't think my that would be??- but then when I went to get the ring changed for a stud (I may literally have been mistaken for a bull at this time) the day later they decided they'd have to REPIERCE IT. Great news.
The muay Thai theme continued; bumped into a guy there in our dorm who I'd met at Tiger, and we met two guys who were going to step into the ring at a local bar tonight for a fight... in order to get free drinks, of course. Us girls considered it- but that would mean getting all sweaty before a night out. In hindsight that always happens anyway in Asia, it's so hot!!
We took a boat trip to Maya beach (from the film The Beach) and could get out and snorkel at various places along the way. It was very simliar scenery to Halong Bay. We stopped on a beach covered in monkeys and fed them some pineapple. We got soaked on the way back with the splash so had to go and shower before heading out that night... via an amazing Shisha restaurant where we watched a fire show on the beach!! I say watch the show, I mean watch the glistening toned torsos of the cinnamon skinned fire jugglers in the moonlight on a perfect white sand beach,as they swirl hot flames around highlighting their defined muscles and reckless disregard for their own safety... Mmmmh.
Let's talk about those Thai men some more.Better yet, let's not talk about them... let's just take a moment of silence to visualise that scene again. Omggjashsxhdbxkpw.
Koh SamuiAnyway, time to move on to Koh Samui where it rained, pretty much, all the time. It was a very family orientated place and the main strip didn't have much culture. The beach that we stayed on was pretty disgusting. I think Koh Samui may only really be good if you can afford to stay in a luxury resort on a really nice beach! Tried to get festive by watching Santa Clause 3 in the hotel reception but they shut before it ended :(
