This is it! I won't be seeing the little island I call home, or the clutches of the people I love, for around 7 or 8 months... how surprisingly calm I feel! Well, besides the fact that, obviously, I left my packing until 5am the morning of my flight. As you do.
As luck is always on my side, I set of without a glitch. Just kidding- my flight was cancelled. I took this as an opportunity to sample the delights of the airport restaurant. Surprised? (I highly recommend the restaurant... All restaurants... Food in general.)
I also checked my facebook to find that Mum had already left THREE status updates about me leaving. Bless her.
Almost cried when my hair scissors got taken off me in security. As my blog continues I think I will realise that statements like that just aren't that necessary.
Got the coach to Heathrow and met Becca (other team leader for Childreach) and saw our group onto their plane. I saw a sign saying 'Please face direction of travel'... in view of those that were facing the direction of travel. Money well spent.
Talking of money, now that my travels have officially started I'm on a tight budget. Knowing that I had an overnight sleep on Heathrow floor before my flight to China, I successfully denied the urge to buy a million coffees. Pro budgeter already- (will buy one later). A guy even gave me a free bottle of cider... if I had been lying on the floor anywhere other than an airport that would have made much more sense. Anything to ease the pain of the cold granite floor was welcomed. Thank you, fine stranger.
Arriving in China, we were asked to fill out a survey... in return for a free bottle opener. Huh, ty-pic-al.
