Tash, Andy, Elliot and I all had breakfast together in the sun, and decided to have a morning of fishing before they had to set off. Andy was very successful (with prawns as bait this time) and caught four fish and two unwitting puffer fish - his first ever catch! However, they weren't biting for Elly and he didn't manage to reel anything in. We did see a much more experienced fisherman pull in a big one - putting our tiddlers to shame. With the boys occupied, it gave Tash and I some time to have a proper catch up and read our books in the sun.
After lunch (finishing up the leftovers from last night) they had to take off, so we bode our farewells until we are all back in the UK (they both live in Bedfordshire, so not far from Elly).
We got chatting to a new guy from the Netherlands who is struggling to find work; I'm so glad that part of the journey is over for us. We also got some good advice from one of the old boys here that we have become friendly with about four wheel driving (especially in Land Rovers, which are a particular passion for him) up towards Darwin. All stuff that helps towards our journey - we love the invaluable information from the locals.
We were waiting around for a phone call from the garage to let us know the car was ready to be collected, and they said they'd phone by late afternoon. As 3 o'clock approached, Elliot was getting extremely restless; he views days such as this as a waste. He eventually called the garage and found out the part they were waiting on had been delivered to the wrong place. All in all, very frustrating. We shall have to wait until tomorrow morning. We both set off for a 45 minute run, but it did nothing for Elly's unsettled mood as it could not be very long due to the fact that we needed to head to the shops before the light faded.
After a shower we cycled to Woolys. Elly opted for some fresh fruit, veg and nuts for his supper while I steamed some salmon with chilli, garlic and ginger with pak choi, rice and a corn on the cob. I've started breaking off just one clove of garlic as it's all I need - the shop assistant laughed as she weighed it and told me it would cost 4 cents. Well, a budget is a budget!
We sat and ate with Sophie and Dorian and discussed where we might live and work in the future. It seems everyone struggles with the "should I leave Australia?" question.
There seems to be a fair few new campers, all around 50 who have just discovered backpacking. They are talking loudly of campervans and caravans, and oddly the men are discussing ear piercing. It's all a bit strange, and feeling a little irritated by the bravado in the camp kitchen, we've retreated to the tent.
