We woke up to our 6am alarm and got ready for our day in Aitutaki. We got a bit worried when the transfers bus that was supposed to pick us up at 7 hadn't arrived, and it was already 7.25. We called the airport as our flight was at 8, thankfully they called the driver and he picked us up just in time! Once at the airport we were greeted by a very hansome islander called Phil, (the guy mum saw when she was there and classed him as my future husband! Good choice tho mum!!!). He sorted all our boarding cards and we got on the Air Raratonga plane. It was a 40 minute flight. Aitutaki airport was nothing more than a hut! We were greeted by Tiki, or Monkey Butt as Phil described him, he even gave us a piece of paper with..."We're looking for Monkey Butt" on it. Tiki took us around the island describing every single hotel and accommodation on the island giving the exact proce...he was a little weird! We stopped off at the "city" which consisted of a market (one room with a few coconuts in), souvenir shop (a tiny room with island made things, sarongs and a clothes rail of island shirts).... a very small place!! We headed to the boat after the land tour. It was a big wooden boat with a leaf canopy. We toured the lagoon, picking up people from the $1700 a night bungalow suites on their own island (b******s!). We headed towards 2 islands, we stopped at one and when i stepped on the sand the guide told us that it was "Shark" island from shipwrecked and the other island across the lagoon was "Tiger" island! Filming had finished the week before so there were some table and chairs left heir that the contestants made, me and Hannah were soooo excited to be there and we were the only english people on the tour so no one had an idea of what we were so excited about!!! Tiki showed us how to take the rusk off a coconut and crack it open, we all had some coconut milk too, which was so much nicer than i thought it'd be! After about 30 mins exploring the small island we headed to a snorkling spot on our way to another island. We stopped off and had about 30 mins snorkling while the tour guides cooked lunch. Lunch consisted of yellow fin tuna done on the bbq, salad, potatoes, paw paw, roasted bananas, melon, passion fruit.... it was gorgeous. I snorkled for as long as i could, hannah made it about 5 mins before freaking herself out. We headed to one foot island (where survivor was filmed). We stayed on here for 2 hours. Met a guy called Josh from Auckland who was travelling with work collegues, he was a travel agent and their boss had paid for them to explore parts of the world! We walked around the island...walking for at least a half a mile out on the sand.... it was breath taking, i would have never imagined that water could be so turquoise, just stood there with my mouth open most of the time, not actually believing that i was there! We even walked out to a spit where people get married, and there was a flower arch and shell still on there. we headed back to the boat and slowly made our way back to the main island and flew back to Raratonga. It was a trip that was well worth the money and a place i shall never forget!
It was Michelles birthday so we all went out and toured some of the bars in town. Me and hannah were both soooo tired from the days events that we didnt stay out long. We got some food and got the bus back to the hostel. Fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!
