Saturday 24th Feb:
(By the way with regards to the picture, we didn't actually see any kangaroos and as we couldn't find an appropriate picture we chose this one as it represents us hopping off to the bar - more about that later!)
Had a really good nights sleep but were woken when two girls left the hostel at six in the morning - the downfalls of sharing a room! Soph's head was also right by the door so the corridor got a lovely view of her sleeping every time someone walked in or out.
We spent the day at the beach toay, got the tram down there which took about 15 mins and was good because we got to see some of Adelaide as we went along. When we got of the tram in Glenolg it was really nice and had lots of bars and cafes so we went to one of these and had lunch which was nice, and lovely weather too.
The beach was really nice, not as nice as the ones we'd seen on the West coast but still pretty spectacular. Did some sunbathing and had a quick dip in the sea. Then we went for a walk around the markets and shark museum before heading home, had a really nice relaxing day.
We stopped off at the supermarket on the way home and bought some 'treats' for dinner - crisps, dip, cheese and crackers which we munched in our room. We should mention that by this point in the day we'd managed to attract some weird guys in the hostel. Soph, an italian with hair longer than hers (although she did manage to get a free roll from him which is always a bonus!) and Em, a guy from New Zealand who kept winking and was, lets just say a tad sleazy - both of which offered to 'take us out' later that evening....we gratefully declined. We arranged to meet Andrew (barman from aces bar) that evening about 11ish so decided we'd go out ourselves first.
The sleazy guy and his friends said they were going to buy some drink from a bar down the road as it was cheaper than the hostel bar so after getting into our glad rags we went with them to get some wine. Disaster struck however when we got to the bar and only Soph and me had valid i'd - one guys was in Chinese or something and the others weren't accepetable in Australia. Because the laws are so strict over there they wouldn't serve us in a group and they thought we were all together, despite Soph's continually stating 'WE ARE NOT WITH THEM'...subtly as you can imagine!
We therefore went back later by ourselves and bought a bottle of wine just us two and took it back to the hostel to drink. When we got there they told us it cost 10 dollars to open it in the hostel (more than the actual wine cost!) so we decided to make a third return trip to the bar and drink it in there.
It turned out to be a great idea as we had the best night out so far. We were given free drinks all night thanks to the bar man taking a rather big shine to Soph and therefore got pretty sozzled! The free drinks included 'screaming orgasm', 'pineapple twist', and some more impressive drinks that we can't quite remember the names of - maybe something to do with the fact we'd had quite a few by this point. The gay bar man did a really cool domino effect with a line up of sambuca on top of a row of glasses with red bull and the whole bar was involved in drinking down the row as quickly as possible, it was so much fun!
The guy that took a shining to Soph was called London (Paul) and his Mum lives near Minnis bay and he used to live near Nanny Mary! Small world eh. Left here about 12 o clock and went to a night club called HQ which was packed. We then met Andrew and his friends outside and got a taxi to a club called Savvy. They very kindly paid for us to get in and our drinks. It was a really nice bar and met some really cool, fun guys who were nice to chat to. Em was cracking a circle of them up with her cockney rhyming slang, including cream crackered, apples and pears, rosy lea and johnny cash (Thanks adrian!) and after a while we even had a whole story going on in slang, which they thought was hilarious! Don't know why this doesn't seem to work in Canterbury! Maybe we should give it a go next time we're out! While in Savvy's Soph got very excited when meeting the guy from the 'Mafia', although not to sure if this was just a dodgy chat up line - as you can imagine Em was not convinced, and didn't realise an 'Australian Mafia' exisited!
Had a really cool night and were very excited when in the taxi home at the thought of cream cheese and crackers... which as soon as we got in managed to eat the whole tub!
