hey kids, just a quick one... we all survived the hilarous 12 hour sleeper train from bangkok to Laos and once again have been met with rain. We can also verify that the welcome recieved at the border was far from...welcome. Lest, we have been assured that the lao people are some of the nicest on the planet and I think we will find that when we go further into the suburbs.
We are going to have a mooch around the city today and tomorrow before heading off to the more picturesque and adventurous north where we shall put on our adventure hats and see what there is on offer. no doubt we will dabble in a bit of that tubing malarky that we hear so much about (for parents, its sitting in a rubber ring -the inner tube of a tractor tyre- and floating down the river to various watering holes/fine drinking establishments to sampe the local brews) ( i am assured it is conmpletely safe, so fear not).
after that, we will most likely head to Louang Phabang which we have heard great thngs about and will probably hire bikes to to a bit of exploring. As for now, we are abot to find some diner in Vientane (the capital of Laos) Oh, and i forgot to mention the best thing about this place........PASTRY!!! now, i know i love food, but i cant explain to you how excited i was because for some reason, ever since we landed in Bangkok, al i was craving was a decent pastry...oh boy have my prayers been answered..move over Paris..Vientiane will give you a run for your money on the pastry goods. (something tells me i shall not be going hungry!!! On that note, Il go in search of dinner and update you soon. (although I hear teh internet is VEERRY expensive in the next place so it might be a little quiet for a few days.
Stay safe everyone,
The Big Little Explorer xxxxx
