Soph And Alice Take On The World!
23rd JAN
I'm sure most of you have heard the story by now as your all pretty good at the whole gossip thing but for those of you who have not heard it yet we'll fill you in...Hawaii did not get off to the best start. The flight was good, pretty empty so we had our own row to sleep! 2 girls that were on the same flight as us from Heathrow were sitting just behind us (Allie and Leah), we realised we were all staying in the same hostel aswell, actually turned out we were all in the same room! When we were checking into the hostel we were asked for our passports as ID, this turned out to be a tiny bit of a problem for us as Alice's was nowhere to be found!! our first incident..don't know how we survived this long without having one actually!! As you can imagine this dampened our spirits slightly and when we found out all of the offices were closed and didn't open until the next morning we didn't have the best first night!
24th JAN
In the morning we spoke to some very unhelpful people on the phone who's only advice was...'apply for a new one!' We needed to get a crime reference number to be able to apply so a we took a trip to Waikiki police station. It was literally a beach hut and when we walked in the police were so bored they couldn't wait to start helping us!! After reporting it to the guys they phoned the same people we did and what a surpise they actually went and had a look for it when it was the police on the phone! LUCKILY it had been found by the cleaners on the plane (There is a God!) Dilemma over...We chilled for the rest of the rest of the day on Waikiki beach. We could now begin to enjoy Hawaii!
25th JAN
This morning we all got up for an all you can eat breakfast before gettng the bus to a waterpark. We went with everyone in our room and a few others..Kate and Simon (the mum and dad of the group) told us it would take about 40mins on the bus, that was fine 3 HOURS was not!!!!! We kept getting told off on the bus by grumpy American OAP's for talking and laughing..we were told we 'hayve nyo REspect forrr yourrrr eylderrrs!!' Thats not true is it parents!?! hehe!!
When we finally got there the park was actually really good, we practically had the whole place to ourselves and ended up having a wicked day! Our room mate Kiwi went out when we got back but because of the whole 21 age thing we couldn't join him and so the rest of us just chilled.
26th JAN
Today we went to Hanauma Bay. As you can see from the pics its absolutely beautiful! When we were waiting for the bus a limo came past and asked us if we wanted a lift there for the same price so we jumped in..travelling in style! Snorkelling there was ok but all the coral was grey because it was volcanic so it wasn't quite as cool as in the Bahamas! Apart from Soph nearly getting attacked by an eel and Alice nearly getting caught in a rip tide trying to find a turtle it all went pretty smoothly!
27th JAN
Today was a bit of a nothing day. We had said we were gona get up at 6 to go to the surf competition on the Northshore, however when Kiwi returned from his night on the tiles at 6 and tried to wake us all up he was told in the kindest possible way to *!?#** off!!! It was a good job we were being lazy anyway because apparantly it was cancelled that day because of too high winds or something.
We all fell asleep on Waikiki beach (probably not the best idea!) and when we woke up we felt so rough that we had to get out of the sun for a bit so we went to the local market and had a look around. we all went for lunch in a place called Coconut Willy's, it was really good and there was a Bob Marley tribute playng in there who was awesome!
28th JAN
when we woke up this morning we were all feeling pretty energetic and so decided to go and give the whole surfing thing a go..you can't not surf when your in Hawaii!! We went and met our instructor Big Todd who was a bit of a legend and after looking like complete fools pretending to surf on the beach we went and hit the waves! It was so fun and we stood up first go! (if you don't believe us just take a look at the pics!) we're pros!!
We had to say goodbye to Kiwi tonight which was actually really sad! It's wierd how close you can get to people in such a short space of time! I think we're meeting up in Auckland though so that should be cool!
29th JAN
The day we went to Pearl Harbour! We got a boat out to the USS Arizona Memorial which was a bit creepy, you can see the boat under the water and there are still over 900 bodies left trapped down there! After seeing that the girls had all had enough but the boys, being boys wanted to pay to go and look at a few other ships! we had lost interest by this point and so sat and waited for them, taking silly pictures and generally being stupid!
It was Mark and Phils last night tonight so we went out for a nice meal with them..we'll prob see them in Melbourne.
30th JAN
Today we got up and went and found the webcam on Waikiki Beach, we phoned our parents and they could see us waving apparantly which was quite cool! After that little bit of excitement we went to walk up a volcano crater with Allie, Leah and Mike (Prince Harry!) We ended up getting picked up by a limo again, we must look important or something! The walk was actually pretty tiring but well worth it, the views at the top were incredible!
31st JAN
We had been saying we wanted to go up to the North Shore and see the surfing the whole time so today thats exactly what we did! Instead of getting a bus we decided to all put in and hire a convertible jeep! This was one of our best days so far! Alice was sat in the front navigating (we all know thats not the kind of job you would wana leave Soph in charge of!) Soph Allie and Leah were in the back...It was so windy but we refused to put the top down as its not everyday you get to drive around in a convertible car! However when it started pouring along the coastal road we had to give in and so pulled over and watched as everyone driving past was in hysterics at us trying to pull the roof over!!
Unfortunately when we go to the North Shore the competition was cancelled again as the 'waves were crashing to early duuuude' but it was still good to see it anyway! The waves were 30ft + and there were kite boarders out there absolutely flying! When we got back we wound up Mike (who is becomming more feminine by the day) for a bit about his parking skills and then went to recover from the beating we had taken by the wind!
01st FEB
Today we went down to the beach (surprise surprise) and played a bit of volleyball and rugby. After, us and Harry decided we wanted to try surfing again. we decided we would get a smaller board this time as it was cheaper but it turned out that this mixed with the highwinds was not a good mix for a surfing beginner! we caught a few waves but no great rides. Soph caught a wave a finally stood up only to be thrown off the board onto the coral and get smacked in the head! this knocked the confidence levels a litte so we gave up!
It was our last night tonight to Harry and his harem decided to go for a meal at Coconut Willy's. It was so funny, we didn't realise that in the evenings it turned into a dancing night for OAPs! We sat and had dinner and listened to a Frank Sinatra/ Elvis Presley tribute! There were loads of old couples wearing there proper dancing shoes and doing the jive and the charlston on the dancefloor! We were the youngest people in there by at least 50 years!! We ended up getting really into it and requesting a bit of Frank Sinatra, I did it my way!! To which we all got up and danced!
After Coconut Willy's we wanted to carry on the party so we went back to our room to play drinking games. A few aussies came to join the party and just as it got going everyone decided to go out, us girls were the only ones that couldn't go and GT (one crazy aussie) decided he didn't want to go out and so offered to stay and babysit us which I think he may have regretted some time after we shaved his beard off!!! the boys ended up coming back to the hostel as the people that were out just werent as fun as us and we all decided to go for a late night swim!!! It was a wicked last night!!!!
02nd FEB
Our last day in Hawaii..We don't wana leave!!! We checked out and then went and sat on the beach with everyone wishing we could carry on our travels with everyone there! The Aussies had rented a massive 8seater car and so offered us a lift to the airport. We all went out for dinner and then got in the car. A few people came to the airport to wave us off and when we had to say goodbye we all got really sad! Allie and Leah especially have become like our best friends over the last 10 days and it feels wrong to be leaving them! We waved goodbye and entered the airport ready to fly to our next destination.....FIJI!
