The Journey!!
Decided to take the cheapest route into Loas which involved taking a boat for 2 days down the Mekong river. Was very surpried as to how beautiful Loas actually was, grat scenery pretty much all the way. Wasnt that comfortable though!! Had a good laugh with the people we met the night before. The boat traveled for 7 hours and then we had a night in a place called Pakbeng, this was a little village with pretty much nthing in, power to the whole place even turned off at 10pm!! Set off again on the slow boat for another 7 hours when it eventually set off 3 hours later than it should. Those wooden seats were not comfortable for 10 hours!!!!!!
Luang Prabang
Had abit of a job finding a guest house here but when we did it was a really nice place. This is a really nice town, a big step up from pakbeng!!! Had a nice meal out, my second stab at loas cuisene, tasted good but was a very small portion. Wish i had gone for the fillet steak for 1.50! Bars are cool here too, just a shame they shut at midnight and if your their late the army come and throw you out. We didnt hang around to see if this were true!! Went to the most amazing waterfall the following day, was like a tropical paradise in the middle of the jungle!! Natural cystal clear water to swim in at the foot of a spectacular waterfall. A tree had a swing rope attached to it and thats how i made my entry into the water! Also jumped off a mini waterfall that went into the pool we were swimming in! Had a very random bear and tiger sanctuary in the area too!
Vientiane
The Capital city of Loas! Things are so different out here, this countries capital is not really any bigger than brighton! Not really a great deal to do here, there are nice bars and restaurants but thats about it! Got our Vietnam visa sorted out here so something practical was done!! On the 15th team chilli returned to 50% when Helena came and joined us for our remaining time in Asia! Was great to see her and exchange our stories of the past couple of weeks!
Vang Vieng
Had a great journey here, partly by van and partly by kyaking up the river!! Highlights of thi8s included negotiating the rapids with absolutely no kyaking experience!! Managed it fine and enjoyed it so much i decided to climb back up the rocks and do it again without the aid of a kyak!! Swollowed a fair amount of water and hit my arse on a rock but it was good fun!! Another few KM's up the river and we came to the 7m cliff jump! Now that doesnt sound too hign but when your up there my god it looked high!! I braved it and it felt like you were falling for a life time! Vang vieng isnt the type of place i imagined in Loas, full of bars and restaurants playing frineds and the simpsons all day! Could of been somewhere in spain! Good party atmosphere though!
Visited paradise island just off of Vang Vieng which hosted the cave and blue lagoon! Really beautiful place, have never seen water so clear and blue! Swam with the fish and played on the swing hanging over the water!! Helena and i explored the cave, was a good climb up to them!! Was very difficult to navigate but we eventually found the main cavern, its was pitch black and absolutely silent!!
Tubing day!!! This is the reason that everyone comes to vang vieng and why it is so popular! Have heard only good things about it and it wasnt over stated!! The concept:- Renting an inflatable rubber ring and floating down the river stoping at river side bars as you go. The Practice:- Absolutely genius idea! was so random but so much fun! Was such a social activity, floating along chatting to random people with large beer loas in hand!! The bars had employees waiting with long sticks ready to pull you in if you wnated to visit!! Most places had a fun activity, generally a zip line or big rope swing over the river. These ropes wings just got bigger and bigger and climaxed witha monster!!! This was awesome, swang so high and far into the river, i loved it!! Kept going on it! There was good music pumping all the way down and no shortage of alcohol! Definatly one of the best things i have done so far!! Wish i had more time here to do it again. Would love to do this with all the guys from home and really up the drinking ante!!!
Loas has been amazing!!! HIGHLY recomended!!!!!!!
