Hanoi
Decided to fly up to Hanoi to save time and it would be the only way we would get to see the Vietnamese capital!! Arrived at the airport and for the first time in my life there was someone holding up a sign with my name on (well it said Adam Matnard) but i figured it must be me, or if not theres gunna be a frustrated Mr. Matnard still waiting at Hanoi airport!!!! Amazingly the people from the hotel we were staying in for $15/night had come and picked uys up from the airport for free, now thats service!!!! First day in Hanoi we figured we just wernt gunna have enough time to do everything so we managed to delay our flights untill the 5th. Explored the city, was what i imagined an Asian city to look like, so many people rushing around!!!
Ha Long Bay
Left the hotel early for the 3 hour journey. Ha Long Bay is a series of nearly 2000 islands just off the coast of Vietnam. really was beautiful, i keep saying it but it was like noithing i have ever seen! We visited a floting fishing village, couldnt believe peoiple actually lived here, they had pets on these small floting houses!! Had a nice fresh fish lunch on the boat, the food here is incredible. We then visited what was called 'the most beautiful cave in Ha Long' and it was lovely but it was all lit up like a ride at disney land!!! This kinda took something away from it, was nice to see tho! The tour conbtinued right around the bay and we wathched the sunset behind it which was lovely!!
Hue
Left Hanoi at 7.30 pm and took the night soft sleeper train down to Hue, which took 13 hours!! Was pretty comnfortable to be honest, bit of a pain as i it was really busy and slepted in a different cabin to the girls. Hue is the cultural capital of vietnam, with pagodas, tombs and the citadel. We figured wqe would get some cultural stuff in befor heading to the beach for sun bathing and beer!! Had an awesome day doing a motor bike tour! All 3 of us had a separate driver for the day and we hit all the big sites. First stop was the citadel which was a walled city within the city, if you get what i mean! Was interesting to see in comparison to the temples of Thailand. Second stop was the largest Pagoda (which is a place of worship i think) it was kinda tall and chimney esk (dont think im really doing it justice here!!) Thirdly we went to the tomb of Tu Duc. This was a really eerie place and you kinda dread to think what went on here in its hay day!! Forth stop was an American bunker from the war times, had some great views down to the river, a strategic point for seeing the enemy comming!! Final stop was another temple/pagoda area which was very nice. Great cultural day, but def readu for some drinking and partying!!
Nha trang
This is the party capital of Vietnam! And were back at the beach again YES!! Was a wicked beach, had a very fun wavey sea which i very much enjoyed playing in! Were staying here for a few days and iut feels great to be settled somehere again, been on the move alot of late!! Lots of bars here with crazy happy hour deals, as if the drinks arnt cheap enough!! Rather over did it on the first night out and ended up throwing up in the ladies toilet sink! The food here is incredible, had meals like BBQ oysters and king prawns followed by fresh BBQ red snapper, not bad for less than 4 quid!!! Best day here had to be the Scuba diving day!! This is something i have alwaysd wanted to do and it exceeded expectations! Styeph and i had our own personal dive master guide who firstly taught us how to breath down there and safety symbols to show under water. We got in the water and both took to it really well and we were down with the fish in no time! It really was amazing, i felt like i was part of the blue planet tv show or saommin!! Saw loas of fish and beautiful corals, wish i had an underwater camera!!! I was swimming around with a clown fish (nemo) was a while, a really incredible experience. Rest of the time here was all about the partying and enjoying the sunshine!!
Ho Chi Minh (Siagon)
Another monster bus journey took us to our final destinatioin in Vietnam, we have literally done the the whole country top to bottom!! Went to an awesome water park on our first afternoon, i couldnt believe how good it was. HAd some wicked slides like i have never been on b4, its the kinda place you would expect to find in america!
Cu Chi
We took a half day trip to the town of Cu Chi which was about an hour or so north of Saigon, this is the site of the Cu Chi tunnels. This is one thing that really interested me about Vietnam. This is the area of core strategic advantage during the war and an area that the Americans could never conquer. The vietnamese had this success by using a guge tunnel system that ran for over 200km under the region and that they built byu hand!! The Americans were fiughting an enemy they could not see who lived in tunnels that they yanks could not fit! Our tour was around the Ho Bo woods area, we wre shown original tunnel entrances in which i could just about fit!! Saw savage traps that the vietnamese set, ingenius designs and you certainly would not get to get caught in one! Next was onto the shooting range!! Biy hood dreams come true!! I got to shoot a machien gun, and not any gun.... an AK-47!!!!! I loved it, had a huge smile on for the rest of the day!! i want one now!!!! Climax of the tour was actually getting to go through a lengh of the tunnel which was specially widned for westerners. It was stilkl tiny, amazingly people lived in the smaller versions for over 5 years!!!
And thats the end of the Asian adventure.... I absolutely LOVED it here and im really gunna miss it. Higly advise everyone to come and visit these amazxing countries!!!!!!
