alright, no idea if anyone still reads this ..especially when i dont write anything for a month, hah!
so im not going to go back and recap everything in detail over a month but ill do a little summary and maybe make a little better effort to keep updated. if i can be bothered.
so the last place i wrote from was taupo, which seems like ages ago. since Taupo i hit the Tongariro Crossing,Napier,Wellington,Nelson,Abel Tasman track,Westport,Greymouth,Franz Josef Glacier,Wanaka,Queenstown. Think thats all.
Tongariro Crossing - pretty cool day hike, supposedly the best day hike in the country.
Napier - in Hawkes Bay, Napier is an Art Deco style town. Didnt see a whole lot of the town. Went to a pretty nice secluded beach about 30min out of town and spent an afternoon. Want to go back to the Hawkes Bay area and see more.
Wellington - liked it here. Interesting little city. Has some good character and wouldnt mind going back and checking more of it out. Has a really good free museum.
Nelson - took the ferry to the south island and drove to Nelson. Also liked Nelson, has a good vibe about it for a small town.
Abel Tasman coastal track - tramped the AT for 3 days. One of NZs Great Walks, the AT winds along the coast for 54km or so. Beautiful scenery and empty beaches. Stayed in DOC huts along the way. Definitely worth checking out. You can kayak some or all of it as well. The hike is pretty easy not really any major uphill climbs.
Westport - never go here
Greymouth - not much going on either but better than westport. One of the best hostels, Global Village, is here.
Franz Josef - tiny little place relying on the glacier for its existence. Checked out the glacier, not bad.
Wanaka - a smaller Queenstown, less commercialized. Very beautiful spot on the lake surrounded by mountains. Wouldnt be a bad spot to spend a winter season working.
Queenstown - oh queenstown, bars and extreme sports. Essentially the Whistler of NZ. Beautiful little town, easy to walk around, surrounded by mountains and on a lake as well. Been here for roughly 2 weeks...living the dream, trying to find a job, of which there are very few at the moment. Definitely a good place to hang out and party though. A lot of different bars scattered all over the place. Spending a season here would certainly be a good time. Been couch surfing for about a week now with a japanese guy (who hates asians?) whose been living here for 7 years. Awesome guy, very laid back and easy going. Letting me stay while i continue the job hunt. Went out with him last night and witnessed a japanese train wreck...they cannot handle much booze. Good times though.
and so that brings us to now...of course all these places have the various people and parties and associated stories that i dont much feel like typing out but ive been having a grand old time!
Tomorrow its off to Christchurch to get out of QT for a bit.
