Wednesday 17 June. The Great Smokey Mountains
A comfortable 3 hour drive took me from Kentucky to Tennessee, where I am staying in a log cabin for three nights at the foot of the Great Smokey mountains. The best news is that the satnav is working again. It's quite an important part of a road trip!
The cabin is deep in the forest at the end of a track, and my closest neighbours are a good few hundred yards away. The cabin is essentially one large room, and has a heart shaped bath, fully equipped kitchen and, best of all, a hot tub on the deck. I was in the tub within minutes of arrival (the temperature is a very humid 92 according to the car). Randy, who owns the cabins, dropped by to say hello. He told me that there isn't much except trees in the immediate vicinity, so another quiet night or three is in order. This place would be no good if you like people watching, but if you want to get away from everything it is perfect (although it does have TV etc - but no internet - I've uploaded this by sitting in a hotel car park!!). I was just watching the weather channel and the local forecast is possible large hail, damaging wind, isolated risk of tornado, but better for tomorrow. Great.
I drove around the area then spent some time planning the next few days. Also cooked myself steaks with instant mash and tinned veg, but real strawberries for afters! My cold seems much better. Another good day.
