The techie guy at Gleanings for the Hungry has been in Haiti for the past two weeks, needless to say the wireless system has suffered some glitches in his absence. So tonight I'm back at Starbucks having another internet date with a most handsome (slightly bald) man!
The hardest part of living and working at a YWAM base is the constant changeover of people. So many new friends come into our hearts, and then go home. Even though we've said a few goodbyes this has been a fantastic week, especially for our kids as a family came from Newberry Springs with a suburban full of kids their age.We have continued to mix and package soup, work on construction, clean, cook, prep food, clean up food, eat food, and enjoy working together no matter what we do.
Every Friday a group of young women come from the House of Hope near Dinuba, to package soup. Some of these girls have come through Juvie, others are in protective services, and others are in court issues that require them to be in this interim place. Regardless of their background, they come to work every Friday for 5 hours. This week, with their help, we were able to have packaged over one million servings of soup! That means that in one week we made it possible for Gleanings to feed one million people somewhere, sometime.Of all the feelings I felt this week, that was the best!
We have developed tremendous friendships with the staff here, (could it be because many of them are Canadian?). However, we have been invited to stay for another week.We will be here until the weekend of the 9th at least. After that, your guess is as good as ours!
