Bed was so comfortable and had a really nice view of the mountains, if i can find a bank to get some more money going to try and stay another night as it really is so peaceful and calm.
Made my way to breakfast and was very surprised at how many people were congregated around the courtyard.. Lots of people hike up the mountain Musa Jezabel for sunrise and then come down to the monastery for 9am as thats when the monastery opens. There must have been at least 60 people waiting and the atmosphere soon changed....
Breakfast was delicious and a nice change from having omlette and bread!
Saw the americans at breakfast and they look shattered as they woke up at 2.30am to climb to the top of the mountain for sunrise and it takes 2 hours to get up there and 2 hours to get back down as there are millions of steps. They enjoyed the trek but said there were too million people at the top of the mountain. I intend to do it at sunset today as the guide book says its not as popular.
We went inside the monastery at 9am and saw the burning bush through which God spoke to Moses and also went inside the St Katherines church which was very impressive.
Hiked into the village (3km) and found the bank and managed to take some more money out which was good....
Had a sleep when i got back at 3pm and woke up at 4.30pm to start my trek up the mountain or should i say mountains.
The tourist police asked me if i had a guide and i said no, it is a legal requirement to have a guide but i managed to shrug him off..... It was perfect timing as at that point i met a persian guy who was travelling with a guy from Trinidad! I couldnt believe my luck as the persian guy had done the trek twice so he knew where he was going. I think he was on drugs or something as he was nearly running up the mountain..... It was nice chatting to them on the way up and met the trinidadians mother, brother, cousin etc as they had come to visit him as he is studying arabic in cairo. Had a lot of fun with them which was good as it was a really hard trek despite the sun not being that strong and a nice breeze!! The trinidadians mum was trying to match make but when i told her my age she soon stopped.
Got to the top of Musa Jezabel mountain at 6.45pm and the view was very beautiful with the sun starting to set. Very few people at the top which was even better!
Started to trek back down and was much quicker and started to get dark at 8pm so walked a bit quicker. Finally saw the lights from the monastery in the distance which was a big relief. Even though i wore hiking boots i still slipped a lot on the way down...
Said adios to the trinidadians and rushed to the dining room for dinner as they only serve dinner until 9pm and just made it. Dinner was delicious with fresh vegetable soup and sausage risotto to follow with treacle tart for pudding. Havent had puddings since i was in England.....
Whilst i was eating dinner i got chatting to a german guy who was a GP and Acupunturist who was very interested in complemenatry medicine. He told me about his experience in the desert and how it bought him to Mount Sinai. He
