Had a good sleep on the train and arrived in Cairo at 9.30am. Met some spanish people on the train but werent that friendly so made a quick exit off the train. Am now on my way to St Katherine, Mount Sinai and trying to suss out where the bus station is as my guide book was not too helpful!! Got a taxi in the end as the heat was too much..... Cairo bus station was very impressive, really clean and very big terminal. Bought a sandwich for the journey and didnt get ripped off!!
Waited for the bus and got chatting to 2 americans, mother and daughter called Kathie and Colleen who were nice. A japanese guy showed up 5 minutes before the bus left and kept bowing at me whilst smiling.
Bus journey to St Katherines was a long one, even though it was 8 hours it felt much longer as there was no aircon and very hot. Made a stop on route and bought a sausage sandwich.
Arrived at St Katherines at 6.30pm, 30 mins ahead of schedule which was a relief as i stank and really needed a shower...... Got a taxi with the americans and said goodbye to the japanese guy. My brain i starting to get affected by the heat as i am not remembering peoples names!!
Arrived at St Katherines monastery and even though i phoned them earlier in the morning wasnt sure if i would get a room. Fortunately they did have a room and the room was very luxorious to what i had been used to.....
The monastery is run by greeks and feel honoured i can stay in the guesthouse which is part of the monastery as usually women are not allowed to stay in them like the one in Mount Athos, Greece. A lot of monks do pilgrimages between mount Athos and St Katherines.
Went for a walk up to monastery but not allowed to enter as only open in the mornings. It was so peaceful and had really good energy and felt the angels presence..... Took some photos of Colleen and Kathie and discovered that Colleen had studied russian last year and was fluent.
Had dinner and the best meal i have had in Eygpt, fresh lentil soup and then chicken with rice to follow. The food tasted really fresh.
Apart from the energy being so pure here, there are loads of cats everywhere and they are much more healthy than in Cairo. I was talking to one of the cats and a monk walked past and gave me a funny look!!
After dinner said goodnight to the americans and went for a walk, the mountains either side of the monastery were out of this world and thousands of stars to look at.
Had a very peaceful nights sleep....
