We boarded our plane from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg and again were greeted with a drink of water. While the safety instructions were being played some guy a few rows back decided to have a coughing fit...which prompted the staff to walk through the cabin with air sanitisers before closing the doors! lol!
Once we were up in the air, we found the airline to be as fantastic as before, excellent entertainment facilities, good food, regular drinks and polite service. As the plane was a little empty, Clare decided to move to a seat further back to allow us both to spread out and try and get some sleep, which was easier said than done!
Tuberculosis man decided that he had finished his coughing and proceeded to fall asleep and snore as loud as possible throughout the whole cabin! With much tossing and turning we both tried as hard as possible to get some sleep but it was useless. Admitting defeat, Clare came to sit back with Emily and we soon got chatting to a family from Leeds about our holidays. The flight seemed to take days but eventually we landed at OR Tambo in Jo'burg at 4.40am. We made our way through immigration and picked up our bags. We made our way to the domestic terminal to check in for the Kulula flight to George and some guy decided to show us where to check in. Once checked in, he offered his hand for money and Emily gave him a tip...to which he looked at it with disgust and replied 'No, notes?' Emily gave a swift 'I don't think so...' and we walked away to the departure lounge!
Once we were through security, we decided to get a drink and found a coffee shop where we got a water and juice and biltong. From there we went and freshened up and Clare changed her knickers because she had had them on too long for her liking and we set off to the departure gate. We boarded the flight and Clare was met with a 'hello sexy lady' by the cabin crew and we both enjoyed the safety announcements made by the crew before take off. Some Thai bride and her husband decided to kick off about some child sitting in 'their seat' which took ages for the crew to solve allowing the child to sit with family and the buy a bride with her husband! Clare tried to talk to the guy next to her and be polite but he just grunted and looked away in disgust! Knobber!
We both fell fast asleep before the plane had taken off we were that exhausted and came round half an hour before we landed at George. After we had landed, we were a little disappointed to find that the weather was bad and the area had received storms that day. We collected our bags and set off to the hire car company. At the hire care desk we were told there were unfortunately no basic cars left for us to hire and so we would be given a free upgrade! Wooop! We were taken out to our car...a silver chevrolet, packed up our belongings (making sure the kids were strapped in in the back) and set off into the distance!
Emily quickly got the hang of the driving and we were pretty soon on our way to Oudtshoorn. We drove up the Outeniqua Pass and marvelled at the sights of the mountain. We wanted to stop for photo's but were not allowed on that side of the road and so decided to stop again another day. We arrived in Oudtshoorn and quickly found our cottage at the end of a quiet road. The cottage was very rustic and round in shape with a small bathroom, tv and food storage, cooking facilities. We were shown the pool area and the kitchen where our breakfast was available each day and met the pets...Bruno the Black lab and Storm the cat. We took a shower and both agreed it was the best one we had ever had!
We got on fresh clothes and set off into town. We stopped at pick and pay to buy some groceries such as crisps, fruit and grape fanta and while there we phoned home to tell everyone we had arrived safely. Then we headed off to Buffelsdrift Game Reserve where we had a lovely lunch in the restaurant overlooking the waterhole (while it rained!) We thought it highly hilarious that some woman came tottering out of a game truck with bright pink heels on! Following our delicious meal we drove back to the cottage where we found the sun had decided to show its little face and so we sat around the pool deciding what to do the next few days.
We were both extremely exhausted from all the travelling and so we decided to call it a night at 5pm! We both fell fast asleep as soon as we got into bed, though we were woken by the sound of people making a racket later on. Initially we were annoyed at people making so much noise 'at this time of night' until we quickly realised that it was only 7.30pm!
We both slept soundly til the sun peeped throught the blinds early the next morning!
