Day 16: Judgement day.Yesterday I met Fili to view a house we had arranged to see from before and tell her that I had been offered somewhere else.
I had told her a few days before I was planning to go to Banff and she was quite relaxed and calm (annoyingly so, in fact) so I was not expecting her to react badly. When I told her she said she was pleased for me, gutted and I could tell she felt a little upset but she knew I couldn't really turn down the offer cos I'd be stitching Julian up too.I felt like an absolute scumbag - I was determined to help them secure the place we were going to see to make up for my betrayal.
We went to see the house with two other girls in one of the most bizarre rental viewings I've ever experienced. The lady offering the property to rent had invited about 5-6 groups of 1-4 people (a lot of people) all at the same time.
We found ourselves weirdly vying against each other and cooing at her new born baby attached to her chestin a desperate attempt to get the edge on our fellow competitors who we also cordially walked round the very large, mouth watering, fantasy-inducing flat chatting too (I even slimily mentioned how lovely her huge diamond encrusted wedding ring was - what had happened to me!!).Weird!
As we waited to make her an offer she couldn't refuse a second set of groups appeared - it was absolutely soul destroying and really quite a cruel and impersonal process.
I couldn't understand how she'd be able to choose one group from the other as everyone repeated the same white lies about how they would never have parties or too many guests over and assured her of their trustworthiness - it was a farce. And it was also all in vain because we didn't get it.In fact another Brit I befriended while walking around the flat later told me she offered it to someone she was chummy with - why bother??!!
I couldn't do anymore for my new mates but vowed to keep my eyes and ears open.
