I have left Grant on the ship and hopped across to the local piazza in downtown Messina, Sicily in order to catch up on travel blogging for the last few days. We have a couple of hours in port before heading off again. The last few days have been busy. 4 ports in 4 days. Firstly, Livorno ( about 2 hours) from Florence, Civitiavecchi ( the port of Rome), the port of Naples and today we are in Sicily. Each place has been amazing and we have stayed in the city close to the ship, with the exception of Rome. We travelled about an hour by train and spent the day there. It wasn't a lot of time, but we did manage to visit some favorite places, the trevi fountain, via del corso, piazza del poppolo and piazza republicca. Our intention is to head back to Rome after the cruise so we weren't too disappointed that we weren't there for long.
Yesterday we were in Naples and believe it or not I lost my voice while there, which Grant was very happy about, due to a bit of a cold! In terms of the weather, this was our worst day because it rained from the minute we got off the ship. This was really unfortunate because the city of Naples and the bay of Naples is truly beautiful. Such an ancient city, and the ship docks right alongside the city,so there are amazing views which you will eventually see in the photos . Naples is now infamously known for it's pizza and pick-pockets, neither of which were obvious to us while there. I think the rain kept everyone in doors. We were back on the ship by 4:30 pm yesterday in order to travel to Sicily today. We docked at about 8am this morning to he most brilliant sunshine and the most spectacular view. Each day as we pull in to port we are surprised by what we see,and usually agree that it can't possibly surpass the previous day but it does. So after today's picturesque view of Messina, we wonder what the Greek islands holds next for us???
