Wednesday 30th January
We arrived in Brisbane and had a short walk to our hostel 'Base Backpackers'. It seemed to be in a good location, opposite the central station and near to the shops, bars, resturants etc. We were told that we couldn't check in until 2pm. Brill! So we left our rucksacks and went to get some lunch. After lunch we had a look around the shops. I brought 2 Pandora charms (a Kangaroo and a Koala, to remind me of my travels in Oz). It was only $74 for the two, which i thought was really good!
We'd heard about the lagoon in Brisbane, so once we finally checked in and sorted out our vouchers and day at the zoo tomorrow, we decided to check it out.
It was about a 15/20min walk and we got to see some views of the City - the buildings, Brisbane river (which after the flooding, looked brown and dirty), the big wheel, beautiful garden landscapes with pretty flowers and plants. Then we finally reached the lagoon and it was worth the walk. It was so pretty (a little beach with swimming pools). We put our things down and got straight into the pool. It wasn't that cold in the water either which was nice. We swam for a bit and then we got out and sunbathed.
Before heading back, we stopped at a cafe to have a milkshake (we do love a milkshake! Ha). We didn't have anything to eat though as we had a free meal voucher for the Down Under bar, which was next to our hostel. We made our way back, freshened up and headed to the bar.
It seemed pretty cool in there. We all had a meal and drink for free using our vouchers and after our meal we also managed to get a free cocktail as well - bargin! The cocktail was really nice as well :)
It turned into a little club after about 9:30/10pm, so we stayed for a couple of hours. Some guys came up and started chatting to us, they all seemed friendly, although Al kept attracting weirdos. (Sorry Al, but it's true).
However we had to be up early to catch the train to the zoo, so we didn't stay out too late. Plus we'd put some laundry on and had to check on it. Which turned out to be a good excuse to get away from the weird men.
