Started the day at 8:30 a.m. and took a bus to downtown La Jolla for breakfast. We had some bagels at Bruegger's. Boy, when was the last time I sat down to have a proper breakfast? It felt good being able to sit down, relax, and chat for a bit. Since we had some time in hand, we made our way to a beach on Marine St., where we took some pictures and just sat on the rock and embraced nature. It was an interesting experience stepping on chilly sand. But as we walked out of the shade, warm fuzziness tickled our toes. Mmm, even though I dislike the heat of the sun, I love love love the feel of the wind brushing against my cheeks, the sand warming my feet, the waves roaring against my ears, the water sprinkling my face. Precious times like this, it feels as if nothing else matter.
We headed downtown for the whale watching tour around noon. Not wanting to be late for the 1:30 p.m. tour, we speed walked our way to Broadway Ave. to get our tickets for the San Diego Harbor Excursion. Sadly, we had to wait in line for the longest time under the hot sun. Getting a little fidgety from the wait, passengers who landed with disappointment from the previous tour got us worried. I prayed for the best and, thank God, the experience was amazing! We saw Diego, the lost gray whale at San Diego Bay, on our way into the Pacific Ocean, two finback whales, the second largest whale, that came up close to our boat, a school of dolphins that surfed on the bow of our boat, and sea lions cruising on the buoys! It was unlike anything I ever experienced. It was incredible! The tour guide even commented that this was her best sighting this season! I'd like to believe that my prayers were heard, thank God. The boat got rocky as we made our way out to the Pacific and the strong wind made my throat worse. Luckily I had my scarf, which I covered below my nose, but felt foolishly like a terrorist. At least I wasn't coughing every second with my terrorist look. Anyhow, I must say that 25 bucks was worth every penny of it.
When we got back to the bay at 5 p.m., we headed to our next destination, Balboa Park. Since it was Jade's first time as well, we weren't sure what to expect and ended up missing our stop. We caught the returning bus after a short wait. When we got off, trying to find our way around, a jogger approached us and ask if we needed help with directions. While walking to Balboa Park fountain, Jade and I starred at each other with rounded eyes when he made a comment about meeting pretty asian girls was the highlight of his jog. We said our goodbyes a little abruptly when we got to the fountain. Jade and I took a couple of pictures and, out of nowhere, the guy came back! We didn't have time to walk away since he approached us again asking if we wanted a picture together. Jade handed him the camera hesitantly and we muttered another thanks and bye after the picture. A little freaked out by now, we walked off to the side, waiting for him to disappear out of sight before we started exploring again. To our horror, he kept turning back to search for us! Jade shouted "run" and I tagged right behind her onto another route. Phew. Not much of a runner myself, I must say, but we had a good laugh, though freaked out, when we were running pass strollers. Jade became paranoid with everyone wearing a green tee and did, indeed, spot him again when we got to the bottom of the park! She muttered run in Chinese and we were so preoccupied in trying to get away from him that we almost got hit by a car! Phew. Luckily he didn't see us this time. We took some pictures with the pretty architectures and artwork and headed to the bus stop after sunset.
We caught a bus back to downtown San Diego and walked a couple streets down to Urban Outfitters. Mmm, I love the scene at night. Everyone's busy with their own thing--be it laughing, chatting, eating or strolling--yet everything seems so harmonious. Considering that we skipped lunch, another hour bus ride before dinner seems impossible. We stopped by for a Subway foot long, Chicken and Bacon with Ranch Sauce for the first try. Waited for the longest time since a party in front of us ordered at least 10 sandwiches. We munched a little while waiting at the bus stop and finished the rest during our hour long bus ride. Our initial plan of visiting La Jolla Cliffs didn't work out so we decided that we'd end the night with some oranges with big rounded belly buttons, hah! A trick I learned from Jade!
