Round the world in 150 days
Bowl of coffee for breakfast. Meeting with Crazy 70-something (so he says) Swiss man called Emil Senn who convinces me to send half of my belongings to Santiago de Compostella because'you don't need water, you don't even need food. You only need one set of clothes. You want to Autostop with me?' I ask 'what is Autostop?'. 'mmm, how do you say, hitch hike'. And i laugh and after a lot of hassling about 'autostopping', i say, no i've never done this before so i want to walk all the way.
The start is very hilly and i feel like a gypsy walking through the back country of Europe (might be pretty spot on). The gypsy later turns into the Von trap family fleeing nazis through the french pyrenees. The landscape changes by the hour which is very nice. All in all, the walk takes around 7 and a half hours, more than 6 of these, up hill. A storm arrives with only a spot of rain but EXTREME winds. One guy turns back and decides to go again tomorrow. Smart man. For around 3 hours, I'm battling winds which send my ponytail flying horizontal to my head. Sometimes, i lift my foot to go forward and am frozen mid air by the pressure of the wind. This is all quite funny. Tears are streaming from my eyes from the wind and i laugh that i might be blown away by a particularly fierce spot of wind and may never be seen again. Then there's snow. It's so nice! Down through a forest and I arrive at a tiny town called Roncevalles. I get the last bed in the hostel of 30 people. The two English guys got sent away which is a bit crap because it seems like they got a better place to stay. I go to a small bar for a dinner and in comes this crazy french man who sits at my table. I immediately get a bad feeling about him. I eat my fish (delicious) and soup and then high tail it out of there, but not before crazy serial killer gives me two 6€ phone cards. I'm paranoid for a second that he's going to track me through my trip with the phone cards and then kill me 50mtrs before i get to Santiago church.
Aching muscles goes to bed and passes out immediately.
