Hello everyone!
I am sure none of you know where Mauritius is on the map. It is a tiny Island to the right of Madagascar and is pronounced Ma-rish-ous almost like Delicious. I feel like an idiot because of the way I was pronouncing it before SAS! Apparently people say that Mauritius is like Africas "Hawaii". It is where they go for vacations. Anyways…I had an amazing time there, as did everyone else. We were only docked there for the day so what does everyone do? Go to the beach!
There were a huge number of SAS students who signed up to go on a catamaran for the day. About 25 people fit on one catamaran and we took about an hour and half drive out to a beautiful Island where we were able to go snorkeling and lay out on the beach. We had to swim up to the Island because the boats could not go in that far. I had my Gopro glued to my hand the entire day and got lots of cool pictures and videos under water. There was a point in the day where I was off snorkeling by myself and was so intrigued by this little black fish that was protecting its home. Every time I would put the camera close to it, it would bite the camera and my goggles.
After spending a few hours on the island it was time to get food on the catamaran and head back. After lunch a few of us jumped back in the water for some last minute swimming and snorkeling. People were doing back flips off the boat and climbing up the anchor and just having a great time. This was definitely a vacation destination and would LOVE to go back there again!
We now begin our long journey to the extreme heat and humidity of India. Who knows what we are in for, I am nervous and do not know what to expect, but I know it will be the most life changing port. Or so I hear….Talk to you then!
