So we arrived in auckland ahead of schedule at 8am wednesday 2nd may... Had a good flight and the most beautiful view of the north of Auckland on landing!!! It's such a beautiful place.... We landed and went through security and had to declare all food items....or face a $400 fine.... Needless to say I was not keen for the fine! And any fruit, nuts plants.... When asked what food I had I listed...."well umm, a brunch bar, chocolate, crisps, both kettle and golden..".....with that he gave out a chuckle ....then asked what plants/seeds/nuts I had, my reply of "kp,salted" was too much for him... And his reply of "I think you'll be ok love" whist laughing at my clarity and detail made me think I'd been a bit too prescriptive and keen to avoid the fine... Shame I couldn't be so clear or knowledgeable when a very suspicious shaped like a gun was showing up at the bottom of my hold bag....cue the full bag check....which revealed an umbrella and a collection of "very close together things".... Hmmm.... But I was good to go....."Kia Ora" and we were off.... Kat got us on a free shuttle direct to the hostel...score..! So we dumped our stuff, showered then set off the explore the big city....! Strolled down to the harbour, around the streets... (Got ourselves a nifty NZ sim card (my number is +64221220301) so add that to your what's app contacts and you can message me for free as you would with any uk number as the app just uses your wifi/data to send the message, regardless of country)....we were spoilt with wifi in LA..!
But back to NZ.... What a wonderful country, it's so pretty, and I instantly felt comfortable here....it feels a bit like home! But this just triggered off me missing everyone at home a little today!
We then went to the top of the sky tower... The tallest building in the southern hemisphere! The views were amazing.... You could see over the whole city and all the islands off the coast.... Truly stunning views...! Then it was home for a quick change to go out for dinner and drinks with a few medics here on their elective.... Beth Daf Awen and Izzat waiting in the lobby for us.... Now this is home! After a scenic route to the mini brewery restaurant some lovely food... And plans made to meet up Friday day and do a boat tour then go to a rock comedy concert of Friday evening.... It was off to bed for us....a cheeky 10pm turn in....though it was the first time of proper, non dozing sleep since I woke Monday morning....
You'll not be surprised to find this written at another 4am wake up.... I'm ready and raring for the day ahead... Jet lag...do one!
Til tomorrow's blog.... Lots of love xxxxx

Bennett Household Don't really know if the comments get published with the book or the message board, I was reading the messages and didn't want this one to go without being published so I've copied what mam sent as a message to put here incase because it's about the day you never experienced:) Mam; Our 1 May 2012 ........ the day you missed out on ........... Today started out wet, windy and cold!!! nothing like the weather you are leaving behind in LA .................sooo dads in Leeds for the week working missing us all (hes a big softie really) ................me and Joe are really glad to have your car while you are away. Joe has door to door service today to take all his uni project work in for his end of year presentation. Had final runthrough with him at 7.30 this morning .... really impressed he got out of bed on the second call!! then it was off to uni for Joe and work for the day for me and well...... it was a jungle out there ...... soooo much rain over night caused floods in places and three accidents on the A470 by 8.30am. When I finally got to work it was a normal day with nothing as exciting as missing 1 May 2012. Joes presentation went well .... dad rang home and was missing us all and I could finally clean the house after Joes workshops were cleared from the kitchen and rooms. Uno .... well what can I say about his day .... he slept most of the time, I think he was exahused from his shower last night!!!! Just received a text off you to say that you have landed in Auckland for the next leg of your round the world elective which I am sure you and Kat will have loads to tell us about when you facetime us ........ I've had a word with Uno and hes on red alert to wake us if you facetime at some stupid o'clock hour ;) ;) xxxx
