After our quick freshing up, we hit the ground running. The itinerary for the morning was to head to Atocha station to schedule our departure for Barcelona Sunday and then trek to Retiro Park, or so we thought. Today Jayne and I learned that contrary to popular opinion, not all roads lead to Retiro Park. Despite numerous map checkings and consultations from the locals, we ended up walking the wrong way multiple times. Upon realizing we had headed the exact distance in the wrong direction, we opted for the best solution, a quick trip on the Subway. Good news! We finally were where we needed to be! After confirming our trips, we were off to find Retiro Park once again. One left turn was all it took; we finally made it to our first destination.
Disclaimer: Walking thru the park is not necessarily the best idea if you have been walking for 2 hours, haven't slept in over 24 hours, and haven't eaten or had something to drink since the flight.
Jayne and I decided the best plan would be to break for lunch. However, there were no places to eat in the vicinity. In our search for the perfect restaurant, we happened upon La Cocina de Neptuno, a quaint tapas and pasta restaurant near El Prado. We finished lunch, a perfect refresher, and decided our lofty goal of exploring the entire day would have to be postponed. With the help from our now favorite Madrid police officer, we were finally able to get our bearings and make our way back to the hotel.
After a much needed Spanish siesta, we decided to stay local and explore the Palace and the surrounding parks and gardens. Our second attempt out this afternoon proved successful and has given us confidence in finally knowing our way around. We decided to dine at our hotel this evening and are planning to stay in in order to be ready for the adventure tomorrow holds. Good night from Madrid!

Brendan I was expecting at least 3 or 4 sultry stories about meeting a feisty Spanish Conquistador by now. Oh well, seems like a good beginning to a wonderful adventure. Por estes revolucion!!!
