We have made it safely to Madrid! Our flight landed on time, despite some delays taking off (apparently the airline WAAAAY overbooked). Each of us had our own personal entertainment system which I plan to use much more on the way home. After taking my Tylenol PM before we even taxied away from the gate, I easily slept on and off through The Princess and the Frog, a movie I have seen far too many times to count. There were two options for dinner: the first was a pasta dish that sounded delicious, especially when they mentioned how it was filled with Ricotta cheese and topped with Mozzarella. Unfortunately, neither Sam nor myself would be able tolerate such a rich dish, so we opted for the much safer chicken, rice, and vegetables option. Once they finally took my tray away, I slept restlessly for most of the remaining flight. Breakfast consisted of a yogurt and a Danish, and before we knew it we were on the ground.
Once we had landed in Madrid, we followed the crowd off the plane to baggage claim. Using our knowledge of the Spanish language (and the English translations underneath), we followed signs to the bus stop we wanted. With just a little help, we had a plan to get from the airport to the neighborhood in which our hotel is located. After only 2 stops on the bus and 3 stops on the subway, we were where we wanted to be… almost. It took us about 10 minutes of wandering around a some very pretty streets before we happened upon our hotel. Soon we were checked in. Although the beds and the prospect of sleeping looked tempting (and still does as Sam and I get cleaned up), we are looking forward to spending the better part of today exploring the city. Fingers crossed we don't get too lost!
