So we left Krabi and headed to PhiPhi on the 24th..all excited because we knew that we were going to be staying in a nice hotel for a night!!!
After a short boat trip we arrived in a very bustelling Phi Phi, which was slightly unexpected as when i went last year it was quite chilled and reasonably quiet. But i suppose the fact that we had such problems getting accommodation should of been a clue that it would be packed (bare in mind Phi Phi is so small that it doesn't even have tuktuks on it). It also appears to be a prime destination for travellers as it is absolutely stuffed full of back packers!!!!
We arrived in the moning so decided after dumping our (increasingly heavier!!) backpacks in the hotel (yeah HOTEL not HOSTEL!!! Love it!!!!) we'd go and try and sort out accomodation for the next two nights (in hindsight we probably should have tried to stay in Phi Phi even longer but o well.)
After wondering around 4 a while with little luck we were directed to charlies hostels where we met a helpful irish guy Kian, who works there( every1 that seems to work in phi phi is western!!! We were told finding jobs in bars would be soo easy...something to think about 4 next year after this trip, eh?...), he set us up with some where very cheap to stay for our 3rd night (by this point anne was still on a mission and had found us somewhere 4 the second night which was slightly cheaper than the hotel..but not a lot..but had tv and aircon!!!), anyway.. this very cheap place was where u ask??...wait 4 it....in a TENT on the beach!!!
Well, we thought 'hey, might be fun...a real travel experiance!!', well.. we were right it was that and more...but i'll get to that in a moment..
So after this was all sorted we headed back to our HOTEL to laze by the pool (yeah i'm sure u would have notised we've been doing a lot of lazing recently!!), u would have thought none of us had seen a pool before we were getting so excited!! Seriously, we were doing funny poses for photographs, holding hands and spinning in circles, doing pool acrobatics, and then decided to play the game where 2 ppl link arms while a third crouchs on the hands and then the 2 ppl with their hands linked throws them...of course while these things seem like a grand idea at the time they usually end in tears..as they did on this occasion, as Anne smashed her head on the bottom of the pool when she was thrown and almost immediately after had a eggsized bump on her head..we decided to calm down after that!
That night we hit the town. Checking out Tiger bar, The irish pub, raggae bar and ending up in hippies. It was a good night (buckets of drinks are very cheap and Nats friend from home knew 1 of the bar owners (tiger bar) so he sorted us out with a few drinks also (which was nice of him!). The only annoying thing is apparently laws here state music must be off by 1am, now altho this law appears to usually b ignored, a load of police landed on the island the day b4 we did so all music stopped at 1...but bars were still open so it wasn't too bad.
The next day we moved hostels and the girls went to the beach...i went back to bed!! I kno..very lame but i was making the most of tv (i watched enermy of the state and love actually and the longest yard) and aircon b4 the tent!
That evening we went out again and followed pretty much the same patern as the night before..except we ended up in a swedish bar at 1 point. As we got in anne loudly declared how she didn't wanna be in a swedish bar and hang out with a bunch of swedes..when she said that a guy with a semi american accent asked us if we wanted drinks...not sure whether he worked there or was jus offering a drink we weren't sure how to respond so jus took our chances and answered in the way u always should do if some1 offers u a dirink...jus say YES! He then hopped behind what turned out to be HIS bar (and he was a swedish btw) and got us a shot each and a bucket to share!! Luckily he found Anne's comment amusing rather than insulting!! And we ended the night once again in hippies.
The next day we had to be up to meet a longtailed boat at 12 which was going to take us to a beach about 10 minutes away where our tent was. While we were waiting i decided to get a bamboo tatoo (soory mum!). Ok, it's not quite as spur of the mo as it sounds, i had been thinking about it for a while (eva since i was in thailand last year) and much to my mums gratitude it is very small (about the size of a thumb nailish) and is right next to the butterfly on my hip, so is only visible in a bikini. It is my name in Thai and i love it!!! To me it's like a reminder of this trip i can look at when i'm old and wrinkly (altho i'm sure it will be hidden under roles of fat then as i've already decided im gonna be a fat granny!!!)
So after my impromptu tattoo we headed to our new home, which also has beach bungalows (i don't remember them being offered to us!!) and a big outdoor beach bar/restaurent. Turns out we were pretty much the only ppl staying there except for a couple of french ppl who we think are friends with the owners (who are also french...the man was nice but the lady was a typical frenchie and was quite mean and cold...we didn't like her), so we had this gorgeous beach to ourselves, which was almost worth the thought of 6 of us staying in a 4 person tent, whcih was about 16,000000000 flights of rocky steps up on a hill (not quite on the beach then eh!?!), but it's ok cos the thai guys carried our bags up (hardly even showing a sweat, whilst we were pretty much all crawling by the top even tho we were bag free!)
We spent the rest of that day on the beach, Faye and i did some exploring and some rock climbing again and found another beach which was something straight out of a postcard!!!
That eve we decided to jus stay in the beachbar/restaurant. The evening started tamely enough..playing cards, having dinner...the only exciting moment was when the generator went off, throwing us into pitch blackness, and one of the thai men that worked there nealy set light to the place trying to light candles. but this black out only lasted 15mins or so and then we had our light back! Thank God!!
It was then that we were offered to join the thai guys that worked there, who were sitting in a circle singing thai songs accompanied by a guitar smoking the giggest rock of hash (naughty tobbacco!!!) i have eva seen in my life thru a bamboo bong (i told u they use bamboo for EVERYTHING!!!). Now this is not really any of our thing but it really was the first time i felt we were doin something really authentially thai and travelly. We all tried the bong once each (sorry mum...again) and were informed by one of the thai's that we had now 'been to thailand' and then jus sat and tried to chat with the thai's (to be fair their english is a lot betta than our thai!!) and sang with them. I dont think any of us would of swapped the thai's even if we were offered the most beautiful english speaking guys on the planet, as it was really good memory we'll all have now of real travelling with real thai's!!
The next day we left early after a very sweaty night in a tent, all wearing the same clothes as none of us wanted to open our bags in the tent, and not showering (yeah i know gross!!) and arrived in Koh sumui after two boat trips and a bus journey by about 6ish. Last night we jus went out to eat and slept in our very groovy bungalows on the beach!!
So today so far we have jus spent on the beach worshipping the sun but will be going out later!!
Should be fun!
