Day 5
Travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by coach was facinating. We passes miles and miles of thick Malaysian jungle. Originally our coach was to drop us off at Berjaya Times Square although the driver told us that the Commonwealth Stadium was the final departure for passengers. Fantastic! We proceeded to get a taxi into the city. The driver was friendly and chatty. We were indulging in his history lesson of KL and took us by the Old Palace where the old king used to reside. After quite a long taxi drive into the heart of KL we were dropped off at Berjaya Times Square. I can't even begin to tell you how busy this place was. The traffic is horrendous. We had no bearings whatsoever. After asking around we eventually found our hostel.
Unfortunately our online booking had messed up and there wasn't enough room at the inn! We got anm 8 bed dorm a few doors down at Classic Inn which I highly recommend. It had a great decor outside and the people were lovely. It cost around 40RM per night. As we setlled in our dorm 3 more guys came in. Rob from Yorkshire, Oskar and Marcus who were both from Sweeden. We decided we could all do with some food and so Rob, who had been to KL before, took us into China town. The only way to describe this is a bottomless market. Every nook and cranny was teaming with people selling allsorts. Don't be afraid to haggle to get a good price on anything you buy. This felt like my kind of place, bustling and endless opportunities to grab a bargin. We dined at a small cramped cafe which offered a multitude of different dishes and had a good ole chat.
After dinner we had a few drinks at a Reggae Bar which is recommended for the girls as this had a happy hour on. As you can imagine Roisin and I were nominated for bar duty. We had a great time here and got to know our roomates. Rob loved to talk, Oskar was a ladies man with a comedy streak and Marcus quickly became known to me as a bottomless encylopedia. A guy called Steve from Melbourne joined us and we were off to Bukit Bintang. It was more expensive around here so we ended up in an irish bar having a few drinks then moved onto a club where we danced the night away. Fantastic first night!
