oh my god cannot believe the last time i updated was in melaka, absolutely feels like a million years ago and a million miles away. I'll give a slightly condensed version as we really havent been doing a hell of a lot and dont want to bore everyone. Anyway we were in singapore for a few days, was really hot but not much to do. had to say goodbye to our lovely friends lizzi and vicky, but luckily we had a few days left with caroline includign the flight. goodbyes are sad :(
got to australia and was not too sure about cairns at first especially when it started RAINING on us. we were sooo annoyed and moaning lots as is expected of the english. couldnt check in for ages so i was just falling asleep on the hostels sofa in reception a bit embarrassing. still being as hardcore as we are we went out the very night we got there. found an amazing bar painted like a cow (called mad cows, funnily enough) and its proper like saloon all the girls dressed as cowgirls and stuff cheesy but for a dollar a drink, we werent complaining. the barmen even learned what our order was, just liek in moveis when you catch their eye and they start mixing it for you was awesome to be smashed on $5. even met the manager of our hostel on our first night out but no freebies :( going out has been mega fun as its so easy to talk to other backpackers, just go through the general spiel (where you from/ where you staying/ where you going next/ where you going to uni) makes things a lot easier. have met some cool people but do feel a bit of a pale whale compared to the beautiful tanned people (including the boys)
on our second night in cairns we did a pub crawl but after our free pizza and drinks we quickly abandoned, as it was one of those totally lame affairs where if your not degrading yoursefl in some way you get accused of being 'boring' or not able to have a laugh. not my kind of thing. we mainly just stayed in our favourite place rhino bar, where we met another guy from our hostel who did all the entertainment, the lovely dan. who then decided to gatecrash our dorm at four in the morning when we had diving at half 6. NOT so lovely after that.
Although disgustingly hungover on our cruise as soon as i got in the beautiful water it totally cleared up. Even though we have a sneaking suspicion we got on the wrong cruise still went to a beautiful place called michaelmas cay, which is part beach, part national park so everything theres protected. was scared of accidently wreckign coral and gettign arrested. after some snorkelling went divign and i was for some reason mega scared- so much to remember. think i'd liek to do it again, but i felt a bit claustrophobic, not being able to breathe fully was a strange sensation.
Left cairns and went onto mission beach, which in hindsight we could've probably skipped. on the way though went to a croc farm which was pretty cool but a bit early for me. also couldnt really get my head around the fact they breed crocs for eating, and you could get a croc pie and stuff. fed some kangaroos and held a baby croc. then just chilled by the pool at mission beach and had our first taste of GOON which im sure we'll now be living on. even after a drunken night of card games, drinking monopoly and a trip to the beach still have liek 2 litres left which we're just lugging around.
Now we're in Townsville, jsut waiting for it to be one o clock so we can get our bus. everyoen slags off townsville but its actually quite pretty, has got lots of lovely shops, jsut dont think its really a backpackers place. Oh well have only had one night here and we're off to Airlie Beach to do our Whitsundays cruise which'll be amazing !
