Hey there! Just thought we'd give you all a little update :)
The reef was amazing- our trip had been upgraded beacause we obviously looked so classy (NAAAAT) and we loved life on our little boat. We visited the Michaelmas Cay coral island on the Great Barrier Reef where we got to snorkel and see lots and lots of fish/other things, not too sure how the underwater photos will turn out but we've put the film in for processing today. We had to wear stinger suits by the way which were very flattering..... Later in the afternoon we took a semi-submarine where we got a better glimpse of the reef and even managed to see two sea turtles :) Had lots of lunch followed by champagne and a spot of sun and arrived back in Cairns late afternoon.
We left Cairns the following morning on our first Greyhound Bus. Turns out a lot of Queensland had been flooded overnight (including one of our next destinations Airlie Beach) and the roads were unfortunately blocked off. We made it to Townsville (Dullsville) where there wasn't really a lot to do except eat expensive food/watch our very first dorm room TV(!) After a couple of days of casually lounging around and visiting an Aboriginal cultural arts centre we successfully made it to Airlie Beach. Arriving in great excitement about our three day Whitsunday sailing trip we found the travel agent's office to check in, only to find out it had been cancelled due to extreme weather conditions :(
This probably was our lowest point of the trip so far. After thoroughly enjoying our previous day trip from Cairns and looking forward to our scuba dive from the Whitsundays, we were absolutely gutted to say the least. The weather really wasn't helping the situation either- it was still raining heavily 24/7. We ended up drinking free beer and dancing in yet another Irish bar to make up for it.
Decided to sack Airlie Beach off pretty sharpish in search of some sun. Mackay was the next stop where we found a very girly pink dorm room. We didn't really do or see much of Mackay except eat/read/sleep and left the next day to endure an 11 hour bus journey down to Bundaberg.
Turns out 100% of hostels in Bundaberg do not have late night check in. After walking round for quite a while we were finally let in to a hostel appropriately named the Cellblock. We woke up this morning to vastly improved weather conditions and we even applied suncream for the first day in what felt like months. Tomorrow we're visiting the famous Bundaberg Rum distillary which includes free drinks (yeaaah it does!).
Again I go back to the point that we haven't really done/seen a lot this week however the sun is out and we're going to stop being neg heads as of today :)
Hope you're all well

Andrea -5%?! uh oh (can comment on this now that you have spelt brown properly and I know what it means!) I think it's really sad they cancelled your trip - like I said surely the best place to be is a boat!? But at least yoiu saw the reef and turtles! Were they huge? Are you sticking with the Cellblock or searching for somewhere else today? Don't like the sound of that! Enjoy the rum! xoxoxoxoxox
