Headed to breakfast about 7:30am and ready to meet our tour friends at 8am. Meeting went for about an hour and then we set off for a tour of Lima. We drove through Mirasoles (where our hotel is located) to the Pacific Ocean for some photos along the foreshore. From here we visited the centre of Lima, with it's beautiful central square and plaza. We also visited the San Franciscan Monastery, including the catacombs, and a museum to get a brief overview of the history of Peru and all the different cultures that have been here throughout time. Whilst the city square was impressive, I didn't feel as comfortable or as in awe as I did in Quito. Hopefully, the rest of the country is a bit different...or maybe I'm just too tired to enjoy!
Last stop was back at Parque Kennedy in Miraflores and we all went to a nice sandwich shop for lunch. My Spanish is getting so much better, I actually managed to order in Spanish! It was pretty broken, but I got what I wanted so can't have been too bad :)
From here it was free time until the evening so we wandered back to the beach and along the foreshore of Mirasoles to a shopping mall called Larcomar. It felt very LA and the clothes were the equivalent of Australian prices, so very expensive for our trip so far. Needless to say nothing was bought :)
After an hour or so relax at the hotel, we were taken to a park that has loads of water fountains. Each was different, with lights, some were interactive. The master piece was a show that involved projecting lasers and images onto water screens. It included a load of different Peruvian dancers from various parts of the country doing their traditional dances. It was pretty impressive (although not as good as Disney's Fantasmic :P).
From here we went to dinner, which was at a restaurant that served traditional food, accompanied by dancers who performed dancers from around the country. The dancing was absolutely amazing! They are very talented and you could see elements from a number of other cultural dances in their routines. Dinner was also very good, although I wasn't overly brave and there was quite a bit I didn't like. I did however have my first Pisco Sour and also my first taste of chicha, a drink made from a purple corn that grows here. Both were quite nice :) From here, we caught the Metro back to the hotel and some kicked on, but we had to pack again and get up early for tomorrow's flight so we headed up to bed.
