A late start this morning, although I was woken about 2:30am by the rest of the group coming back to the hotel. They were incredibly noisy! A lovely breakfast in the glorious sunshine, meeting random Aussie tourists in the queue was a beautiful start to the day. We were onto the bus at 10am and stopped for an ATM, then stopped for snacks and water before finally getting onto the road to the Colca Valley. We stopped at a couple of view points along the way and also stopped for a boxed lunch at a random stop on the side of the road.
One of the view points was at 4910m...and finally we felt the altitude. I was okay, just a little bit light headed, but others had headaches and nausea after going for a short wander around the viewing spot. We then headed to Chivay and a very quick city tour (as there's not much of a city centre). They had some lovely markets and a cute little church and that's pretty much the tour done :)
Next stop was the Colca Hot Springs for a lovely dip in the warm water. We were escorted there by tuk-tuk. Mine sped off first (I was a little bit concerned) but turns out he just needed gas...and then we SLOWLY made our way to the hot springs, being overtaken by pretty much everything along the way!
And the hot springs....lovely! We had Colca Sour's (made with cactus...apparently) and they were very tasty. I couldn't stay in too long though as it was so incredibly warm...and the view was amazing! Then headed to our accommodation for the night - a lovely lodge in the Colca Valley in the next town along from Chivay, called Coparaque. There is absolutely nothing here but probably a good thing seem as though breakfast is at 5:30am tomorrow!
