Made a few friends on the trip and now have some people to go to the party with for new years. Hotel will be very nice when the builders finish it in a few weeks time, but am told I have 'special rate as room is not finish yet'. He points a a few live wires sticking out of the walls and ceiling 'please, you not touch'. More live wires in the bathroom, have to aim the shower away from these later. Grateful that it is a new bathroom as these places have no toilet paper, just an arse hose. Nice to have my own room and air con though!

Started new years eve drinking at around 4 with a few guys from birmingham, everyone seems to drink buckets here. You buy a plastic bucket with 1/2 a bottle of local whisky, a can of pop and a bottle of redbull for about 2 pounds, they empty the contents into the bucket over ice and pop a few straws in, all for 2 pounds! After a couple of these we are ready to take a half hour speedboat ride over choppy water to the full moon party on Koh Phangan. There is a massive beach here, all the way along there are more buckets for sale, speaker systems and nightclubs open for about a mile or so. People everywhere, around 10,000 i'm told. Loads of performers doing fire tricks, fireworks going off all over the place and everyone is very friendly and having a great time. We ring in the new year 7 hours before the UK to massive cheers and fireworks.

After another couple of buckets the memory gets a bit hazey, other guys said we got the speedboat back around 5 and I jumped off at ran away when we got back to Koh Samui. Woke up in my room with everything where it should be so no harm done apart from a few brain cells. Spent most of the day in bed recovering, popped out for dinner and a few drinks (coke) with the brummies and back to bed.
