Hello!
Decided to take a detour of our route south and head west to the sunny surfing resort of Montanita! We thought we deserved a rest from our vigorous travelling regime so we´re spending a couple of days here. Its full of young tourists who spend the days on the sunny beach and the evenings excessively drinking. It was such a change in temperature when we got here, we were used to the chilly, andean mountain breeze, about 3,000 ft above where we are now, which is unbearably hot! We got incredibly burnt yesterday on the beach (our first full day), so today weve paid the price and hid in the shade all day. Its cool though, our hostal is literally on the beach and we have hammocks and stuff.... Pretty sure the beds are bug infested though, and it gets SO hot in the room in the mornings. We´re also accustomed to a couple of rastafarians who seem to live in the hammocks outside our room. Owner seems a little crazy as well, and we made scrambled eggs earliar in the most dingy basic kitchen you could ever see. Still, 5 dollars a night.....
Its been quite odd experiencing this culture after weeks of small indigenous villages, its honestly a world away from the rest of Ecuador. After a couple more nights we´re going to continue on our route, and via Loja and then Vilcabamba will soon cross the border into Peru. Isnt that exciting?!
Will try and upload some more photos asap! x
