We are now in latacunga which is the beginning of the Quilatoa loop, a popular loop of towns which ´gringos´do but apparently still very nice! It takes you round these small idigenous villages and beautiful landscapes away from the bustling city life, something we were both really looking forward to.
We have speant the last 3 nights in the nicest hostal in the andes overlooking Cotopaxi Volcano! It´s a tiny hamlet at the bottom of the volcano. The hostal we were staying at in Quito also runs trips to this little house there, literally in the middle of nowhere so weve been without any electricity - i.e internet - ever since. It was amazing though, it was a lovely mud hut hostel with hammocks and log fires! So serene and tranquil, like nothing we´d ever seen before.
On our first day we went on a recommended waterfall walk, which was lovely, and managed to get ourselves fairly wet, before trying our hand at the volcano itself the next day. It´s about 4 - 6000 ft above sea level, and youre recommend to properly acclimatise before attempting to trek up it, but, you know... we surprise ourselves sometimes....
We managed to get some way up the vocano before the altitude completely messed us up; feels as though your head is about to explode. However we did reach as far as was possible for the fee we had paid, and have some impressive pictures of the snow!
Had a relaxing last day at Cotopaxi, just sat around reading and took a short bike ride (and some monopoly this morning!)
Our time is short though and we must shoot! Will update you soon.
Hope everything is ok at home, apparantly the weather has been really nice (andy tells me).
Ciao! x
