Early start this morning, had to catch a train from Cha-am to Chumpon at 11.18, this was delayed for an hour however so we saw a lot of the tiny train station that morning! (I have to say it was worlds apart from trying to catch a train in India, a lot less stress!)
Finally got on the train at 12.30ish for a 5 hour journey to Chumpon. Once in Chumpon we'd planned to get a bus to Ranong and then a ferry to Koh Payam. Due to the train being late we were running the risk of missing the last bus so we flagged down a tuk-tuk who raced us to the bus stop. We needn't have bothered rushing, we had to wait a couple of hours for the last bus anyway! Got the bus just after 20.00 and it was a 2 hour journey to Ranong. We had a few stops on the way so when we pulled into a small station we thought it was a toilet break so off we got to stretch our legs, we were luckily standing next to the bus when our rucksacks get chucked off the bus, it's then we realised we'd made it to Ranong! By this time it was 23.00ish so we started walking, no ferry at this time of night, the next one is 09.30 or 14.00 the next day and of course we have nowhere to stay but not even 100m from the station we stumble across a hostel 'Kiwi Orchid' and we go to investigate. A really bubbly, friendly woman comes and says hi and asks us if we need a drink, I'm busting for a wee so I'm straight off to the toilet whilst Simon asks for some sandwiches and banana shakes. She tells us she hasn't got any vacancies but she can sort us out a room at a hotel nearby for 250B. She also sorts out how we're gonna get some breakfast in the morning and getting to the ferry and accomodation for the first night on the island, wonder woman or what?! With all that sorted we had our supper and she gave us a lift to our hotel on the back of her and her sister's scooters, that was an experience for me, on the back of a scooter with my big rucksack, needles to say we bonded as I was hugging her the whole way ha ha!
